Prompts included:
What would you do if you had a snow day?
Describe what you like to do when it's too cold to play outside.
Describe the perfect snowman you would build. What would you use for its eyes, nose, and hat?
Write about your perfect cup of hot chocolate. What toppings would you add?
If you could take a sled anywhere, where would you go?
Write a story about a friendly snowball fight.
Pretend you are a snowflake falling from the sky. Where would you land?

Writing a fable can be a fun and interesting project for your students. This provides them with the opportunity to use creativity while writing their fable and share it with their peers!
This product includes information to share with your students about what a fable is, why we write a fable, possible lessons that can be learned when writing a fable, who a fable is written for, possible options students can choose to publish their fable, rules to follow when writing a fable, using a strong opening compared to a weak opening in the first paragraph of your fable, tips that are useful to write a great fable, the layout of the fable is provided, an example of a fable is included in this product that includes an idea template, planning the fable with more in depth ideas, and an example of a fable rough draft is included in this product. After the example fable is read, students can answer 4 comprehension questions about the fable. Students will are also provided with a template that includes an area for 3 fable ideas, and once they choose their fable, they can add onto their fable using the idea chart. Templates are included after the example along with a rough draft template and reminder checklist so students remember to go back and check their work once it is completed.

Writing an informational paragraph is an important writing project that gives students time to conduct research on a specific topic that is of interest to them. It sets the foundation for having students write an informational essay. Once they are finished with their masterpiece, they can share it with their friends and family members. This packet includes information to share with your students about what informational writing is, why we complete informational writing tasks, what steps to follow when writing the topic sentence, supporting sentences, and conclusion, how to make our writing flow so that it makes sense to the reader, and tips to look for when rereading and editing. This packet also includes an example showing the process that is used to complete an informational paragraph. Using this guide, students will write and complete a simple or complex informational paragraph. An example of a completed graphic organizer, an example of an informational paragraph, graphic organizer template, and two rough draft /final draft templates are included with this packet as well.

Writing a play is a perfect project that gives students time to write about an event that happened in their life or an event that they made up. Once they are finished, they can share it with different groups of people and have their friends play each character. This packet includes information to share with your students about what a play is, examples of plays they may see, what steps to follow when writing the beginning, middle and end of a play, and identifying the parts of a play. This packet also includes an example showing the process that is used to write a play using a brainstorming play chart. An example of the play chart and template is also included. On the last several pages, templates are included to help students write the rough draft and final draft of their play that includes space for characters, scenes, stage directions, and lines to show what their characters are saying.

Deaf Education: Writing a Story about Hearing Loss/Deafness

In this product, the differences and similarities between writing a realistic fiction story and a nonfiction story are shared so students can decide how they want to write their story about hearing loss or deafness. They can write a realistic fiction story if they want to write about events that did not happen, but could have, or they could write a nonfiction story about their own personal experiences. Students will then pick which genre they want to use to write their story about hearing loss or deafness. Students can follow the example provided that goes through the writing process which shows the following: picking a genre, coming up with two possible story ideas their story could be about, deciding on one of the story ideas, adding more details onto their story idea, writing a rough draft, editing, and writing a final draft if required.

As our Deaf/hard of hearing/ELL students are completing written assignments, little words/parts of speech that are commonly confused when writing such as is, are, was, were, have, had, do, did, the, and a are emphasized in this product. Students are provided with differences between each word, examples of each word used in a sentence, and students have the opportunity to write a sentence using each word.
