Early readers will learn to recognize unfamiliar words by matching them to familiar images. These printable cards can also be used to teach vocabulary, or for sorting by category. Lower Elementary children can work independently and check their own work by flipping over the image card to reveal the correct matching word. Try this product as a centers activity, a Montessori work, or in a homeschool setting.

Here are some additional details to help you decide if this resource is right for you:

• You will get 75 well designed matching task cards (i.e. large and quality images with minimal cutting required) and matching labels for each of the 75 words.
• You will get a beautiful label for each category to help you display your materials and keep them organized.
• The 75 cards are organized into five sets:

ANIMALS: cat, deer, dog, horse, bird, lobster, pig, tiger, camel, cheetah, chicken, cow, spider, dolphin, duck, fish, giraffe, gorilla, jellyfish, kangaroo, koala, lizard, raccoon, seal, butterfly, caterpillar, sheep, turtle

NUMBERS: zero to nineteen

FRUITS: apple, banana, grapes, kiwi, lemon, limes, orange, strawberries

COMMON OBJECTS: chair, clock, moon, pizza, flower, hat, stapler, shoe

• Each task card is 4.25" x 5.5".
• You get 26 cards, one for each letter of the alphabet.
• You get two different versions of the task cards, one with solid black images and the other with black outlines only (to save on printer ink).
• I've included instructions to help you get this activity up and running quickly.
• If you don't have Tangram sets in your classroom, I've included a template that you can print on card stock and cut out to use as manipulatives.
• These task cards are meant as a visual only. They print 4 to a page and are not sized to any particular Tangram set. You will likely not be able to fit your Tangrams directly on to the puzzles.

This resource was created in order to help Speech Language Pathologists target initial phonemes at the word level. This resource includes a total of 40 pictured initial /h/ CV and CVC words to use the h-insertion trick during speech therapy sessions.

The h-insertion trick can be an extremely helpful strategy to use when children are stuck at the isolation level of a sound. By producing /h/ after the initial sound, the child continues their air flow, making it easier to produce the following vowel. This helps them to eliminate the prior habit of producing the incorrect sound.
