Try Everything, Shakira (Zootopia) - BUCKET DRUMMING!

Need to connect with your kids with their pop music through general music? Involve them in bucket drumming with Shakira's hit from the movie Zootopia, "Try Everything"
There are three all-color coded slides along with the form identifiers listed next to each phrase. Discuss form with the students and teach them (by rote) the rhythms on the powerpoint with the corresponding repeats (most are repeated 4 times). Then, apply it to drums!
All regular notation is to be played on the buckets (or drums, or ground, however you wish), and the X notation (with a down stem) are played as stick clicks above their head (or you could apply it to a tambourine or other auxiliary instrument)

Do Solfege and Quarter Rest Lesson Using Bear Feels Sick
By Creating Musical Literature
Use the chant or lullaby to help the bear feel better! Chant or sing this extension to the popular book "Bear Feels Sick" by Karma Wilson. Talk to the children prior to starting about what being a caring and good friend means and that friends help each other when they are sick. Then introduce the chant or song to the children and sing after every time that the says the bear feels sick. Use the rhythm chart to decode the rhythms and discover quarter rests. Use the song to listen and decode for the do solfege syllable. Adaptable for PreK-2nd grade.

Slow Tempo Lesson Using "Slowly, Slowly, Slowly" said the Sloth Book

Shaun the Sheep hits theaters this summer, and there's no better way to work on Solfege than "Sol Mi Sheep - Level One!". In Sol Mi Sheep, Shaun the Sheep, the Lambs, and the Farmer, help the kids identify where the Sol, Mi, and La lines are on the staff in a game format. Characters are placed on different solfege levels and students will sing back the solfege syllables as they see them. If the class masters the solfege example, the slide will advance and the high score will continue to elevate. Each character has an independent rhythm -- Shaun is a quarter note, the lambs are a pair of eighth notes, and the farmer is a quarter rest. The way I construct the lesson is I have all classes participate and record the highest score at the end of the lesson. I run this exercise about 2 or 3 minutes (it helps if you have a percussive background track running around 90-110 bpm) and let the students keep adding to their score. You'll notice that the more the activity progresses, the solfege examples become more lengthy and difficult. I keep track of the scores on a different powerpoint so the kids can see how they're progressing AND how they match up against other classes in their grade. Trust me, it gets pretty competitive! :) Included are instructions and the game in PDF and powerpoint format. In your primary grades, the voice can have many different timbres. It can be sung as an aria, yelled from the roofed top, whispered quietly, and spoken normally. In "The VoiceSSSS!", we concentrate on the four methods of using our voice, a key in identifying and practicing the methods: S - Spoken S - Sung S - Soft (Whisper) S - Shout Students see a display 1 through 8 to SPEAK on a steady beat (3 background tracks included, from 80 to 100+bpm). As they read these numbers on a steady beat, there will be numbers highlighted in yellow that will be a different characteristic. Some may be sung, whispered, or shouted (have fun with the shouts) :) Each slide is completely different and will challenge your kids as you count them off so they can experiment vocally For the sing, there is no definitive pitch, so I ask them to make up a middle or high pitch on the number given. You can take turns boys and girls, you can play it as a class, or however you wish Some are quite tricky -- kids may have to switch up to 4 different vocal styles by the end! La Solfege Syllable and Rhythm vs. Steady Beat Lesson Using Bear's Loose Tooth

Use this lesson to have the children comfort the bear that the tooth will come out! Based on this popular book, have the children chant or sing to a bear puppet that it will all be okay. Use the accompanying rhythm and beat charts to differentiate between rhythm and steady beat. Accompanying worksheet should be used to have students notate the rhythms to reinforce their decoding skills. Have the older students in grades 1 and 2 sing the chant on so, mi and la syllables. Use the sung version of the chant to introduce or reinforce the la syllable. Adaptable for grades PreK-2nd grade with worksheets that can be assigned digitally through Easel.

Reviewing solfege with your kids? This may be the game format you're looking for!
An authentic jeopardy game board with categories for "Give me a Hand", "Take a Look", "Scale it!", and "Extended Solfege" on the title slide. Students can elect to pick $200, $400, $600, $800, or $1000 answers. After clicking on the amount, the answer will appear on the next slide.
Give me a Hand - A description of the hand sign and students will have to guess which syllable
Take a Look - Students will see the sign and have to guess which syllable
Scale it - The following and preceding notes in the solfege scale
Extended Solfege - Lowered and raised versions of common solfege
A text answer will first be visible, but if you advance the animation, the solfege sign/syllable will enter the slide if your kids need a hint. Students (keeping in true Jeopardy! fashion) can answer in the form of a question
"What is a Do?"
"What is a Ti?"
"What is La?"
After the money is awarded (You can split sides of your class, boys vs girls, class vs class, however you want it!), there is a link in the bottom right hand corner to go back to the title screen and game board.

Slow Tempo Lesson Using Slow Samson

Need a slow tempo lesson using a book? Used up the more popular books? Try this lesson set to the book "Slow Samson" by Bethany Christou. Every time that you read "Samson was slow", have the children sing the song or chant the rhyme that goes with the lesson. Feel free to have students move slowly to the song as well. A fun way to match up the solfege syllables with the hand signs! In Solfege Mix n Match, each contestant will be given the 7 plastic solfege syllables (included that you can print out and laminate), which are affixed to the board with magnetic tape. In this “boy vs. girl” competition (or team 1 vs team 2), the name of a solfege syllable will appear on the screen and contestants must drag the correct hand sign to their answer box… The first contestant to drag their answer to the answer box wins that round! Keep score, award points, or just play for fun! Included are 80+ slides for your enjoyment. Have fun!
Quarter Rest and Ostinato Lesson Using Bear Can't Sleep

Grim Grinning Ghosts (Haunted Mansion) - RHYTHM BASKETBALL! (mp3 included)

RHYTHM BASKETBALL is in for Halloween with the smash hit "Grim Grinning Ghosts" in an Electro Swing Remix version from the Disney Theme Parks Haunted Mansion attraction!
There are three all-color coded slides along with the form identifiers listed next to each phrase. Discuss form with the students and teach them (by rote) the rhythms on the powerpoint with the corresponding repeats (most are repeated 2 or 4 times ).
For this, your students will each have a basketball (can be regulation size or smaller) and bounce their ball on the ground each time they see a basketball icon. Each basketball icon is denoted as a quarter note. The rests are in between each basketball for the students to hold the ball.
Two two smaller basketballs are treated as 2 eighth note pairs
This can be performed with lower intermediate grade levels (think 3rd and 2nd grade!) with easy because there's no standard notation to follow along
The mp3 is included so you can play right along with it!

Harry Potter Theme (Remix) - PUMPKIN BASKETBALL!

RHYTHM BASKETBALL has gotten a new twist right in time for Halloween as the basketballs are now *pumpkin* icons, inspired by John Williams' every so popular theme from "Harry Potter" ... played as PUMPKIN BASKETBALL!

Twos Company - Part I (Duet Rhythmic Warmups with mp3s)

In "Twos Company" students will see two 4-beat rhythmic examples on the powerpoint and will split amongs their peers as a duet and read the rhythms down, with instruments, vocalizing, or however you please!
Students can be the "1" part or the "2" part or you can call individuals to sight read, or split it up any way you wish.
There are 25 different examples with inflections, style, and background grooves to keep you going (at different tempi if you'd like)
In this resource, it encompasses quarter notes, quarter rests, half notes, dynamics (forte and piano), and repeat signs into a canon exercise (to be repeated 4 times)
You can play these on boomwhackers, classroom percussion, Orff, recorders, or whatever you'd like.

Just Snow Already! Extension Lesson for Teaching/Reviewing Ta and Ti-ti
