Time allowance to complete:

5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.

40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)

Time allowance to assess:

A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.

Please ensure when you download this resource into Google Drive that you are logged in to the gmail account where you wish to store the activity. In the past teachers have downloaded resources into their school account in error. Thanks :)

Need an awesome Art Unit? I have just the thing for you! This creative Jacob Lawrence Storefront Scene was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. It is best to use 18 x 24 white paper for this unit, since this will be a rather large artwork. Do your students need a Question of The Day for February? Using a Question of The Day can lead to tremendous growth academically and socially. The Question of The Day Fun can be utilized during your Morning Meeting time along with your greeting and other activities. 

There are Valentine’s Day questions, Black History Month questions, and kindness questions. All of the questions are on a Google Slide and can be used every morning during your Morning Meeting routine. All you have to do is bring up the Google Slide each morning and have the slide ready to go for that day. There are 20 EDITABLE and DIVERSE slides just for the month of February! 

Students will create connections and develop deep discussions with the questions.  Therefore, the skills they are learning during Morning Meeting will lead to connections within their reading texts. Students who practice those skills outside of reading will most likely utilize those same skills while reading. 

Additionally, the February Question of The Day will create deep relationships between you and your students! If you have the other Morning Meeting Slides than you understand how powerful these questions can be!  

This is also an excellent resource to use with your remote learners as well. You could assign one or more slides to their learning management system for morning meetings and writing or reading activities.

Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. It is best to use 18 x 24 white paper for this unit, since this will be a rather large artwork. This is a biography writing unit about the life of famous American civil rights activist, Martin Luther King. The unit has been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.
