The Secret of Star Hill is an exciting graded reader for young learners aged 9–12. It is perfect for A2-level English students. WOW! Two different options for the same book! How fun – QR Codes and Poke Cards. Both are favorite activities for the students in my classroom. Henry and Mudge The First Book poke cards are a great independent, partner or guided reading group comprehension activity. Henry and Mudge books are a just right beginning chapter book for second grade students. Students in small groups quickly make connections to Henry and his big, loveable dog, Mudge. The poke cards are self checking. After reading each chapter, students will answer each question by selecting one of three choices. Using a pencil, straw, or pipe cleaner, students will poke through the hole to choose their answer. The correct answer will have a mark above or around the hole. The poking process quickly engages the students and provides immediate feedback to them. As with the poke cards, the QR code cards are self checking. My students love using our classroom iPods or iPads to check their answers. Cards have chapter titles on them for ease of organization. Cards are labeled poke cards or QR code cards. Answer key is included and clearly labeled. Teacher Preparation: -For QR and poke cards - Print on light colored card stock for durability. -For poke cards - Using a hole punch, at each * punch a hole. -On the back of the poke card identify the correct answer by drawing a circle around the hole or marking an X above the hole. -Laminate for durability. Guided reading group time has always been a favorite time in my classroom. Students love the closeness of the small group and reading a book chosen just for them! Everyone in my classroom enjoys a good Stink Moody story. Just enough gross stuff for the boys and just enough humor for everyone! Stink and the Freaky Frog Freakout is book eight in the Stink series. The format is half page (my students LOVE the smaller booklet format). I copy the pages single sided. This allows a blank side for further word work or notes I may want the students to write down. ~ Stink and the Incredible Super-Galactic Jawbreaker is a wonderful book to reinforce letter writing, idioms, and friendships. This literature unit is a great guided reading group study. ~The format is half page. Copy front/back, staple together. My students love the half page booklet format. ~Included in the unit: -comprehension questions for each chapter -idiom project ~ I use this unit with one of my guided reading groups. The unit will last about a week or two. Sometimes the guided reading groups set their own expectations/assignments for completing their books. ~Questions are based on Bloom’s Taxonomy and use higher level thinking skills.
