⭐Complete one challenge a day in conjunction with the different ASK, BRAINSTORM, PLAN, CREATE, TEST, and REFLECTION prompts. These can be used as class/partner discussion, or as a writing or journal prompt.

⭐Use them for public speaking practice. Allow students to build as many cards as predetermined, followed by show and tell with the class, or their families. Use the Discussion Questions to help guide this portion. Students can practice speaking and listening skills, using loud and clear voices, and giving full attention to the speaker. Encourage students to ask questions to their classmates.

This is a great science 3-page non-fiction text about how some animals use the earth's magnetic field to help them with migration. It is paired with a choice of two STEM activities (one easy and one more challenging). This aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards for third grade about forces and interactions (3-PS2) There is a graphic organizer for independent follow-up work after the reading and specific instructions for the challenge. How to Catch a Snowman by Adam Wallace and Andy Elkerton, is a fictional winter story about kids trying to catch a clever snowman. The book lends itself to many ways to integrate STEAM, ELA, Math, and even Science activities to accompany the book. In this product, there are activities centered around STEAM, and ELA. You will need to get some supplies for students to build for the STEAM part and you can either build (or buy) a snowman yourself for the kids to try to trap or have them build one. (I would recommend things like bathroom paper tubes, pipe cleaners, and things like that).

Students will first read the book as a whole class and then focus on some story elements from the story. Once they have completed that, they will begin creating a plan to catch the snowman! (I would recommend having the students in groups). Then once students have completed their plan, they can then begin building their trap to catch the snowman. They will then test it and once they test it, they will complete the form that has them reflect on their build.

I always begin the activities the week before Christmas break as a way to help keep students engaged during the crazy week as they get ready for Christmas. I then return to the book when we get back from break to help refocus my students into the routine of school. I hope you enjoy these activities.

STEM activities in the classroom are a fantastic engagement opportunity! Students enjoy challenges, show off their creativity, develop partner skills, and much more. Recently Dollar Tree had these National Geographic books. Wow! What a great find. Hint, I check my local Dollar Tree for this typeof book frequently. STEM challenge cards were created for each of the books. Most of the cards will have sentence from the book and a challenge activity for the students to complete. You decide what supplies you will provide for your students. There are so many different supplies to choose from: craft sticks, legos, pattern blocks, straws, linker cubes, buttons, q-tips, dough and toothpicks, and I’m sure you can think of lots more. Tips and suggestions for the lesson are offered. There are recording sheets as well. You can get a big bang for your buck with this resource! Think "Flat Stanley" of Science. Sammie Steam was designed to look like a cross between the scientist Albert Einstein and the artist Leonardo da Vinci. This packet contains many suggested Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math challenges. It was created with the purpose of getting families actively involved with their children by completing challenges that will have them all having fun! Sammie STEAM, the adventure dog, will become your students' companion as they complete these activities outside of the school day. This will help foster a strong home/school relationships! As the children complete the activities and share them with the class other students will eagerly join in! It is a perfect way to encourage the students to make connections from one academic area to the other. This package offers differentiated ways for the students to document their STEAM experience. Students are encouraged to use photography, artwork, writing, a log etc. This original challenge, created by the STEM to STEAM Trio, is aligned to the Next Generation Science and Common Core standards. *Please go to your My Purchases page (you need to login). Next to each purchase you’ll see a Provide Feedback button. Click that and you will be taken to a page where you can give a rating and leave a short comment about the product. Each time you give feedback, TeachShare gives you credit that you can use towards your future purchases.
