The first lesson is interactive and involves students cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on to a neat copy on the template provided.

A NOVEL STUDY and Reading Comprehension Unit for SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES #1 The Field Guide by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black.

This 34 page BOOK COMPANION is a highly engaging and comprehensive literature unit that allows your students to respond to a story by using a wide range of reading comprehension strategies and skills.

With comprehension questions and activities for each chapter, students will cover a wide range of the English Curriculum Standards in context.

The unit can be followed chapter by chapter, with no extra preparation or planning required by the teacher. Follow-up activities include a comprehension follow up and one to three extra literacy task for each chapter.
