Do you need a series of writing prompts for your students that you can present in your Zoom class or on the projector in your classroom?

This is a great opener for your classroom, whether virtually or face-to-face. Each tab of the book (writing stem prompt) represents a "day in the life" of your student. The students can keep an online journal via Google Docs or they can use an "old fashioned" composition notebook.

The close reading activity requires NO PREP; it has a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity for those fast finishers and answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of the document. It also contains a multiple choice quiz, a crossword activity and a wordsearch puzzle to consolidate learning.

The Informational Writing Unit is split into three lessons. The first lesson is interactive and involves them cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the children need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the final lesson your class will need to use the format provided to write an introduction for the text before checking their draft paragraphs for mistakes and writing up their work into a neat copy on the template provided.

Figurative Language Short Passage Sets are a no-prep, printable close reading activity that's perfect for middle school and high school. Each passage has between 206-226 words and is filled with between 14-19 examples of figurative language, such as hyperbole, metaphor, simile, and personification. I’ve found that although my students can tell me the definition of these terms, simile is the only one they can truly pick out in a text. As a result, their writing is filled with overused similes that need work! These figurative language passage sets are rigorous, use higher-level words and phrases, and in addition to merely identifying the different types, students will be asked to discuss the impact it has on the reader, as they’re asked to do on standardized testing. Simply print and go! There is truly no preparation needed, which is why this set is perfect to leave for sub plans, bell ringers, homework, test prep, review or assessment!

Four Corners Figurative Language Activity is a fun whole-group game or review activity. Your students will love moving around the room as you click through the 40 examples of figurative language, such as hyperbole, metaphor, simile, and personification. As students are learning the difference between singular and plural nouns, coming up with sentences using those nouns is our next step. My students love booklets of any kind that they can refer back to. Once they have come up with their sentences, they will include pictures that they print and cut out, draw pictures freehand, or find pictures in a magazine that they can add to each page of the booklet to connect with what they wrote about. • Students will complete the engaging story starter by writing for 3 minutes.
• Students can use the picture provided to help guide them in their stories, or choose to take a different route and be creative on their own.
• Students will be split into groups of 4-6.
• Each student will present their story to their small group while practicing public speaking skills.
