Some of the questions require students to put their feet in the shoes of the character who was experiencing confusion. When students are reading each story, they will review feeling confused, what happens when they feel that way, and what happens to someone when they are confused. They can also use strategies learned in this social story throughout their day to day routine. The vocabulary word confusion is reviewed and discussed, the questions: how do you feel when you are confused is asked and how can you make yourself feel better if you feel confused. This product includes a teacher guide for resource management to help students identify and express a variety of feelings by rating their feelings on a scale of 0 - 10, students will identify very strong feelings and how they may feel a feeling a little bit or not at all, when students feel angry what they can do, sharing with students that it is okay to feel angry, upset, etc., but what it is not okay to do, coping with upsetting feelings, when to ask for help, recognize when a situation needs help, filling out a feelings survival kit (tips are included), where to ask for help, who in your school you can talk to and trust, understanding what trusting someone means, trust activities that help studies build trust, questions for social workers, counselors, or psychologists, how to ask for help from people that students trust, how people you trust can help you when you feel angry or upset, and when should students ask for help.

This social emotional learning lesson uses Sandra Cisneros's short story Eleven. During this SEL lesson, students read the short story, view a YouTube video, and reflect on their own stress responses. There are journal entries and opportunities for small and large group discussions as well.

This resource includes:

- links to all relevant materials

- an engaging Google Slides presentation to follow

- a lesson guide which lays out each step of the lesson along with timing

- a self-graded Google Form test

This resource could easily be used by a substitute.

This lesson has always been a favorite of my middle school students. The topic is enlightening for kids who have felt stress responses without understanding what is really happening in their brains and bodies (pretty much all kids). Eleven is a fantastic story to use when learning about stress response because readers are often frustrated by the way the main character responds to the stressor she faces. This is a great way to integrate SEL into an English class.

"I Can Have Empathy" is a 12 Page, easy-read social skills narrative designed to help children understand the importance of others and their social interactions. This engaging and interactive story promotes social-emotional learning and enhances children's understanding of empathy.

This book comes in full color with a black-and-white version as well.

"Caught Ya Being Respectful" is a fun and engaging activity that not only gets students talking about being respectful and what that looks like, but it also encourages them to make connections of people (that they know and often admire!) that are showing respect around them as well! This activity includes everything needed for your next classroom lesson on respect, including two worksheets (Wanted Poster and Bonus Activity!) as well as different ideas that you can do with the finished products! My students LOVED this and it was fun for our teachers to see the outcome as well. We got a lot of learning and laughs out of this activity!
