These are fake Instagram posts that have pictures of activities. One post shows the activity happening in the present and the other post shows the activity either finished or happening in the past. The teacher will need to cut out the Instagram posts and the text boxes. Then the students will need to place the descriptions (inside the text boxes) with the correct Instagram post. The majority of the practice with this activity is focused on past tense, but there is also present and future tense.

**An extension for the activity is to have the students underline and identify the verb that shows the tense of the sentence.**

This can be used for multiple grade levels and would be a great support activity for upper elementary and middle school students who need practice with verb tenses (especially past tense).

A Maya Empire Escape Room activity. Ideal for fifth grade or sixth grade, the activity is perfect for group work, starting a new Mesoamerica history topic, team-building activities or for a fun, engaging and interactive lesson. The activity has been split into four different tasks; your students will need to complete each of the tasks to reveal a word. Together the four words make a phrase for them to escape the room.

In Task 1 students will read an informational text about the Maya Empire and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards before putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.

Thanksgiving Dots and Boxes Activity

An easy and fun no-prep game that will elicit a lot of exposure to 60 different Thanksgiving themed words. This is a one-page dots & boxes game including directions. This game could be laminated and used repeatedly with dry-erase markers or played on an iPad with annotation/whiteboard tools.

Objective: Complete more boxes than your component. Each player draws lines using a different color. On your turn, make a horizontal or vertical line from one dot to another. Say the words on either side of the line you drew. If you complete a box on your turn, draw an X in the box using your color. Once all of the boxes have been completed, count to see who got the most.
