Science of Reading Assessment Tool Tracking Sheet

I created a French SOR Assessment tool to cover all the sounds for students K to 3 in the French Immersion setting (Grade 4-6 Core French) for easy assessment and evaluation. Once I got started on my own testing, I realized I could use a quick look tracking sheet.

I learned how to make the boxes editable and hope it works out for you. (I did ask a few colleagues to try it out first). I am offering it FREE for now.

How to use this product:

1. Open the resource in your preferred program (Adobe, etc)
2. Fill in student names for your classroom(s)
3. Print tracking sheets out for your own students

Flip Card decks are so handy for the classroom. I use them in small group work to assess and teach specific sounds, combinations of CV sounds, and to decode words together. The large format cards are great for my Grade 1 students as we can do a lot of whole class instruction and the students have so much fun coming up to the front of the class to come up with the 'really hard' CV combinations for their peers to read out loud.

Use the smaller sets for learning centres, individual work, and pair work as your students get familiar with their phonological awareness and phonemic awareness. My students happen to love 'testing' each other by flipping the cards, saying the sound, and then waiting as their 'students' write what they think is the correct letter on their whiteboards!

We love them so much as we can sneak in a little decoding and Science of Reading whenever we get a minute or two of time to fill.

Any French educator who is wanting to practice, assess, and deepen their students understanding of sound work in French. This item is suitable for French Immersion, Core French, and French instruction at any level. Students in the Core French environment can benefit from using these sets independently for writing assignments and group activities. My "big" kids in grades 5 and 6 have been struggling with their French sounds - both basic and complex - and we're backtracking! However, because of their unique needs, I was struggling to find texts at their level that featured these complex sounds - in excess - for them to practice, see in real life and to work with them in guided readings or 1:1. I was finding myself scouring my shelves for books that had ample opportunities for them to see and practice a certain sound and wasn't having success; so I decided to create texts that hone in on specific sound formations they're struggling with, have never properly learned, or have forgotten. They are texts which feature vocabulary at the grade 5-6 instructional level.

I was also tired of running back and forth from my literacy lab to find reading records and wanted to have them printable from my classroom. If you're in a similar boat, this is the product for you!

This collection features 44 pages of resources:

- 12 texts (student version to be printed and used in small groups or 1:1)

- 12 texts (teachable version with sounds highlighted, or for differentiated instruction)

- 12 "fiches" to use as a fiche d'observation/fiche d'évaluation en littératie in a 1:1 setting featuring columns you're used to seeing (Erreurs, autocorrections, S | St | V strategies, Fluidité, Date, Nom de l'évaluateur et nom de l'élève). I've also provided you with a handy accuracy calculator so you don't need to pull out your calculator for each individual text. Circle the number of errors and you'll be given their accuracy percentage. Each text features comprehension questions.

Recommended lesson plan for reading comprehension:

STEP 2:  Distribute the 10 reading comprehension questions.  Have students read them before reading the story for greater understanding of the information they will need to retain.

Recommended lesson plan for reading comprehension:

STEP 1:  Distribute the vocabulary list, and read the words aloud having students repeat after you.  All of the words listed are in the story they will read, and many of them may be new.  

STEP 2:  Distribute the 10 reading comprehension questions.  Have students read them before reading the story for greater understanding of the information they will need to retain.

STEP 3:  Distribute the 1 page story, and either have students read it silently, or read it together as a class with the teacher calling on individual students to read a passage aloud. 

STEP 4:  Students answer ten comprehension questions either in written form as they read silently, or do the exercise orally as a whole class activity once everyone has finished.

Recommended lesson plan for listening comprehension:

Mourir - Irregular Futur Simple French Tic Tac Toe Games - No Prep Printable

Tic Tac Toe is a fun game that your students already know how to play, and it is a simple way to get them conjugating, writing, and speaking the irregular verb mourir in the futur simple.

This resource includes two worksheets with 6 tic-tac-toe grids per page. One worksheet is for speaking answers, and the other one is for writing them. Photocopy on the front and back for a no-prep set of 12 grids for differentiated learning.

Students play in pairs, conjugating mourir so that it agrees with the subject pronoun in each box, saying answers aloud or writing them to claim squares on tic tac toe grids.
