This Figurative Language Short Passage BUNDLE includes every passage set in my shop with 3 close reading and writing worksheets each! ***Answer Keys Included!

Figurative Language Short Passage Sets are a no-prep, printable close reading activity that's perfect for middle school and high school. Each passage has between 206-226 words and is filled with between 14-19 examples of figurative language, such as hyperbole, metaphor, simile, and personification. I’ve found that although my students can tell me the definition of these terms, simile is the only one they can truly pick out in a text. As a result, their writing is filled with overused similes that need work! These figurative language passage sets are rigorous, use higher-level words and phrases, and in addition to merely identifying the different types, students will be asked to discuss the impact it has on the reader, as they’re asked to do on standardized testing. Simply print and go! There is truly no preparation needed, which is why this set is perfect to leave for sub plans, bell ringers, homework, test prep, review or assessment!

Four Corners Figurative Language Activity is a fun whole-group game or review activity. Your students will love moving around the room as you click through the 40 examples of figurative language, such as hyperbole, metaphor, simile, and personification. This ten-week French writing program will have your students reading every day of the week. These week-long reading programs are suitable for upper-beginner to intermediate level primary or secondary levels, and they will have your students reading tous les jours de la semaine du lundi au vendredi. Each of the week-long reading themes in this program includes five readings with comprehension questions for Monday through Friday. Provide each student with a lectures de la semaine folder and have them add to it every day as you provide daily assignments. You can easily combine themed reading and writing activities in the same weekly folder if you choose to implement my complete reading and writing program. At the end of the week have students turn in their folders. On Monday, you can start over again with a new theme.

Use these weekly no-prep reading activities with many different levels whether you teach in immersion, core, or traditional settings.

Here’s how to use this reading program + accompanying full-year writing component which is sold separately:

✍Lundi: LIRE - Read paragraph #1 and answer three comprehension questions

✍Lundi: ÉCRIRE -  Je dessine - Give students a drawing page with a writing prompt at the top. This will have them beginning to think about the writing theme for the week and is their first pre-writing assignment. Kids love drawing, and the pictures they draw will later serve as inspiration!

✍Mardi: LIRE - Read paragraph #2 and answer three comprehension questions

✍Mardi: ÉCRIRE - Mon livret de vocabulaire - Each student receives a booklet to help them explore the vocabulary related to the week’s writing theme. The front page includes the writing prompt of the week and an image. The second page includes over 80 frequently used French words. Page three lists 12 words that go along with the theme of the week, and the back page has space for ten words that students have either thought of on their own or looked up in the dictionary. The booklet is a simple one page printable that you can either fold in advance or have students do it on their own. Kids write their name on the front cover and you could have them colour it.

✍Mercredi: LIRE - Read paragraph #3 and answer three comprehension questions

✍Mercredi: ÉCRIRE - Vocabulaire - Students go back to their vocabulary booklets from Tuesday and choose ten words that they will include in their rough draft. The words they choose can be a combination of words they have chosen and themed vocabulary that was already written in the booklet. They then write down the chosen words on their vocabulary page that says “ Mots de vocabulaire utiles: J’utiliserai ces mots dans mon paragraphe.”

✍Jeudi: LIRE - Read paragraph #4 and answer three comprehension questions

This ten-week French reading program will have your students reading every day of the week. These week-long reading programs are suitable for upper-beginner to intermediate level primary or secondary levels, and they will have your students reading tous les jours de la semaine du lundi au vendredi. Each of the week-long reading themes in this program includes five readings with comprehension questions for Monday through Friday. These readings are a great way to reinforce vocabulary and grammatical structures, and they are meant to accompany my whole year French writing and vocabulary programs which follow the same themes.

You can easily combine themed reading and writing activities in the same weekly folder if you choose to implement my complete reading and writing program. ✍Mardi: ÉCRIRE - Mon livret de vocabulaire - Each student receives a booklet to help them explore the vocabulary related to the week’s writing theme. The front page includes the writing prompt of the week and an image. The second page includes over 80 frequently used French words. Page three lists 12 words that go along with the theme of the week, and the back page has space for ten words that students have either thought of on their own or looked up in the dictionary. The booklet is a simple one page printable that you can either fold in advance or have students do it on their own. Kids write their name on the front cover and you could have them colour it.

✍Lundi: LIRE - Read paragraph #1 and answer three comprehension questions

✍Lundi: ÉCRIRE -  Je dessine - Give students a drawing page with a writing prompt at the top. This will have them beginning to think about the writing theme for the week and is their first pre-writing assignment. Kids love drawing, and the pictures they draw will later serve as inspiration!

✍Mardi: LIRE - Read paragraph #2 and answer three comprehension questions

✍Mardi: ÉCRIRE - Mon livret de vocabulaire - Each student receives a booklet to help them explore the vocabulary related to the week’s writing theme. The front page includes the writing prompt of the week and an image. The second page includes over 80 frequently used French words. Page three lists 12 words that go along with the theme of the week, and the back page has space for ten words that students have either thought of on their own or looked up in the dictionary. The booklet is a simple one page printable that you can either fold in advance or have students do it on their own. Kids write their name on the front cover and you could have them colour it.

✍Mercredi: LIRE - Read paragraph #3 and answer three comprehension questions

✍Mercredi: ÉCRIRE - Vocabulaire - Students go back to their vocabulary booklets from Tuesday and choose ten words that they will include in their rough draft. The words they choose can be a combination of words they have chosen and themed vocabulary that was already written in the booklet. They then write down the chosen words on their vocabulary page that says “ Mots de vocabulaire utiles: J’utiliserai ces mots dans mon paragraphe.”

✍Jeudi: LIRE - Read paragraph #4 and answer three comprehension questions

✍Jeudi: ÉCRIRE - Mon brouillon - Students write a rough draft of their paragraph using the vocabulary words selected on Wednesday. The brouillon page includes a 5 point checklist at the top for students to evaluate their work for themselves before writing the final copy on Friday. This will motivate students to look over their work and make corrections. 

✍Vendredi: LIRE - Read paragraph #5 and answer three comprehension questions

✍Vendredi: ÉCRIRE - Ma copie propre - The fifth and final step in this writing program is to write the final copy. Students should feel very confident in writing about this week’s theme by now. At the top of the final copy page they’ll see the writing prompt and question words that they can ask themselves while writing:  qui - quoi - quand - où - pourquoi - comment
