Gaza Diary: Shadow of Hope - Realistic Fiction

This story is also available as part of an eight story ebook, "Young Voices: Eight Short Stories of Courage & Resilience."
Aisha, a 13-year-old girl living in Gaza city, chronicles her experiences through a diary during a period of intense conflict between Israeli forces and Hamas militants in Gaza. As bombings, power outages, water shortages, and infrastructure damage disrupt daily life, Aisha describes her fears for her family's safety and her disrupted education. She finds resilience through community support and small acts of normalcy like playing games with friends. Temporary ceasefires provide glimpses of peace amid the violence. But tensions frequently boil over into clashes and protests at the border, unleashing new rounds of bombardment. Aisha conveys the mental and physical toll of living through endless cycles of war and deprivation in Gaza. Yet she retains hope for justice and freedom in the future, fueled by the strength of her community. Throughout her diary, Aisha gives an intimate account of what it's like to come of age in Gaza against a backdrop of conflict and hardship.
There are thought provoking questions (and possible answers) at the end of the story.

The Berenstain Bears in the Dark comprehension questions in this product are useful for students that read the book. The questions are placed in order with the book. Students can answer these questions as the book is read or after they have finished reading the book or listening to the book. While reading this book and answering questions, students will talk about being impatient, learn what the expression, "hold your horses" means, feeling scared, what causes you to feel scared, having nightmares, having an imagination and how to control it, being brave when you feel scared, and what to do if you feel scared. Students can answer these short answer questions and multiple choice questions as the book is read to them, as they read the book independently or they can use the text for lookbacks once the book is finished. Vocabulary words, their meanings, and examples of the words used in sentences are presented. Students have the opportunity to use those words in sentences as well.

The Berenstain Bears Think of Those in Need comprehension questions in this product are useful for students that read the book. The questions are placed in order with the book. Students can answer the questions as the book is read or after they have finished reading the book or listening to the book. While reading this book and answering questions, students will talk about things that they enjoy, learn about donating things that you no longer use, who they can donate to, how people feel to receive things that they are not expecting, how someone feels when they donate to others, and what valuable items are. Students can answer these short answer questions and multiple choice questions as the book is read to them, as they read the book independently or they can use the text for lookbacks once the book is finished. Vocabulary words, their meanings, and examples of the words used in sentences are presented. Students have the opportunity to use those words in sentences as well.
