Are you looking for an introduction lesson for teaching main idea? Are your students struggling with main idea and supporting details or just Listening skills in general? The secret to getting the main idea is to teach the student to identify the topic, and then teach the student to identify what the purpose of the narrative was (Entertain/ Inform/ Persuade/ Instruct).
This is A 36 card/slide Lesson with 36 multiple choice prompts and 36 open-ended prompts which allow you to determine if the student can grasp the main idea. Narratives get progressively more complex as the student moves through the cards. A 4 page PDF assessment in included.
The cards work well with any students grades 6-10 or best when used with students who have mild cognitive delays yet basic language skills. An independent lesson will take about 30 minutes however if you are using it as a teaching tool during instruction the lesson can easily fill 60 minutes with breaks in between for group discussion.

Virtual Escape Room - The Lorax Themed - Comprehension and Spelling
By A Teachers Sidekick
This is a virtual escape room to complete with your students after reading Dr. Seuss's The Lorax. Students will be answering comprehension questions about the story and also having to fill in the blanks for some sight/spelling words. Students could complete this in groups or as individuals.
I would recommend giving students 30 minutes to complete this escape room and displaying that timer in your classroom or on your screen somehow. The only things students will need are a device and maybe a whiteboard or paper for taking notes while they complete the escape room. I hope you enjoy it. Please rate and review.
Special Thanks to Plearn for supplying the Lorax Clip Art. Go check out Plearn’s Store!

Hatchet Pre-Reading Reflection Questions
By Abigail J McClellan
This resource is the perfect pre-reading assignment for the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. It includes six statements where students need to decide if they strongly agree, somewhat agree, somewhat disagree, and strongly disagree. They then have to give their reasoning. These six pre-reading reflection questions get students' brains activated and thinking about various themes, lessons, and ideas they will come across in the novel. It is great to see what students are thinking on these big topics before they begin the novel!! Not only is it fun and engaging for your students, the responses students give are also very interesting to read as a teacher! This product comes with a printable version (pdf) and a Google Drive (Google Slides) version for a total of 4 pages.
** Research has shown that deeper comprehension takes place when students are engaged in activities that bridge prior knowledge with what they are about to learn. This product will help students connect the novel to their already existing knowledge in order to make the new reading more stimulating and engaging.
★ This product is great for Distance Learning. Simply assign the Google Slides to students on Google Classroom or your classroom digital platform. It can be accessed at school or home and requires no prep at all!
★ Feel free to use either the paper OR digital version - BOTH are included with your purchase!
