This product covers comprehension question asked when students are reading the historical fiction book, Meet Samantha, 1904 - An American Girl. Students can work on the comprehension questions with 1:1 support, independently, or with help. Included with this product are comprehension questions - fill in the blank and short answer that relate directly with the movie Samantha: An American Girl Holiday. The questions asked in the 2nd half of this product also provide students the opportunity to compare and contrast the book and the movie with one another.

This is a scavenger hunt using task cards that is based on Greek Gods which are part of what that are studied in the 6th grade curriculum within Comparative Classical Civilizations in the Eastern Hemisphere for Ancient Greece. This resource begins by challenging students with a mission, complete the tasks to solve the mystery word and four digit code to have the Greek Gods offer you immortality and a seat in Mount Olympus. Students will read about Zeus, Poseidon, Hermes, Hera, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Hephaestus and Demeter. This activity will have students reading about each Greek God; their symbols, what they were god of, and their importance to Ancient Greek. Check out the preview to see what each task card entails. Students will need to walk around the room reading the task cards. Each task card has a code word on the bottom which is the answer to the question/fill in the blank. The answer will NOT be found on that same task card. For example, the answer to task card #1 is found by reading the passage on task card #8. Students MUST record which task card they found the answer on in their answer sheet under the “FOUND CARDS #” column. That column will be used at the end for the 4 digit lock code. They will follow the clues to find the correct 4 digit code. Once they have completed the scavenger hunt they will receive a half sheet of paper stating that they have received immortality and their seat in Mount Olympus.

This activity would be a great review before assessments, as a center activity, a group activity, etc. Students will be engaged with the learning while having a fun time trying to solve all of the clues!

The novel, Sideway Stories from Wayside School is a great read for students. My students enjoyed this book because it is humorous. It gives students the idea that children know more than their teachers. Each chapter has a vocabulary review and comprehension questions. Therefore, written comprehension skills are emphasized while reading.

The 2010 movie, Ramona and Beezus makes a connection with the books written by Beverly Cleary. Students can see Ramona and Beezus as they are at home and school. Students will discuss problem solving skills, the importance of being creative and being yourself, being a good friend, accepting others for who they are, accepting change, working together as a family, while Ramona gets into mischief and has fun.

The short answer comprehension questions and the multiple choice comprehension questions in this product relate with the movie as well as students own experiences.

Students can answer these comprehension questions as they watch the movie or after they have finished the movie.

The Graphic Novel, Camp By Kayla Miller is a must read for students. My students enjoyed this book because it is a book about friendship, solving problems, trying new things, and growing up as they navigate middle school.
