For this assignment, I placed several plastic pumpkins and gourds at each set of tables for students to look at and draw. Students practiced drawing/coloring pumpkins and gourds in their sketchbooks or on small paper first. Next, students started a Final Copy drawing of one observational pumpkin and one gourd on 11 x 17-inch paper (horizontal). Students used oil pastels and watercolor paint. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. It is best to use watercolor paper for this unit, since it does the best job of absorbing and working with the watercolor paint. However, if watercolor paper is not at your disposal, please find the heaviest white drawing paper you can find. Painter’s Tape is also best for this assignment, but in a pinch, you may use masking tape- although masking tape may need to be stuck to a different surface (shirt/), it isn’t too sticky on the paper. For this assignment, I asked students to choose a Perspective artwork to complete: the 3D Forms artwork OR the City Scene artwork. For this assignment, I asked students to use their pointer finger (no paint brush) to create the flower pedals. Students filled the paper with fingerprint flowers for one class period. These creative Art name tags were designed to be printed, cut apart, and attached to your student’s amazing artworks. These name tags have a line designated for the student’s name, type of artwork it is, and grade level of the student. Using these name tags makes it easy for handing back artworks to students after the art is displayed in an art gallery, art museum, and/or art show. It is best to use grey newsprint paper if you have it, but if you do not you could use white drawing paper (if you give the white paper a grey-ish look ahead of time). I used pencil to sketch everything out in student sketchbooks and on final copy newsprint paper. I used black crayon OR black oil pastel (depending on grade level) to first outline the major features of the pencil drawing. The older students used oil pastels. After outlining, white crayon OR white oil pastels were used for the self-portrait eyes, and a few other areas. Pattern was a focus throughout the composition whether it showed up on the person or in the background. I hope you and your kiddos love this! Enjoy.

Students were asked to brainstorm ideas for the inside of the vase, and what the vase could be sitting on. Students were given the choice of sunflowers or other flowers to draw. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. For this assignment, I asked the students to start right on a 18x24-inch Final Copy Paper. Students were asked to draw 15-30 large flowers all over their paper. Students were allowed to paint the flowers with any colors they wanted. When the artwork was dry students outlined all the flowers with a black sharpie marker. Some collage skills were added to the assignment at the end of the unit when students needed to cut/glue down strips of construction paper to the bottom of the Final Copy Field of Flowers, to look like fence posts. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. For this assignment, I used large 18 x 24-inch paper. Students traced their arm/hands, traced large lids, and used rulers and yardsticks to create a unique design. Students were asked to use either warm colors in their arm/hand, and cool colors in the background, OR vice versa. Students used watercolor paints to color their entire artwork. Since there is no "right way" to add some of the elements it is a confidence booster! Perfect for older kids to independently work on, or for younger students to follow along with the teacher. This is a movie watch along for Dr. Seuss's The Lorax. This product focuses on main idea and theme, along with supporting details for both. This is a great product to help keep students on task during a movie day and also a great assessment for main idea and theme.

Watch Along to go with Dr. Seuss's The Lorax

This activity is a watch along to go with the movie The Lorax. This product is focused on the events in the story. Students will take doodle notes of what they see/hear. Then describe their doodle notes, and finally sequence the events in the correct order.

Doodle Notes: This is a great way to allow students to visualize what they are watching/reading. Instead of writing what they see, students "doodle" what they are seeing/hearing. This is also a great accommodation for students who might need support with writing.

I have also included an event bank if students need some more support with sequencing the events.

The students will describe 4 characters using adjectives, analyze how The Onceler's character changes throughout the story, and how the events cause that change. Students will also describe how Ted's character impacts other characters in the story.
