Spring Blossoms in the Forest: A Tale of Four Friends. This mini comprehension pack includes a comprehension story, two worksheets (one for students to stick in their workbooks and the other for them to write their answers on), and a memo key for easy grading. This comprehension story focuses on the theme of Spring and follows the journey of four forest friends as they discover blossoms in the forest. It includes questions using Bloom's Taxonomy to help develop critical thinking skills. The pack includes critical thinking and creative thinking questions. This community helpers student picture activity allows students to learn about community helpers in our community, add a picture of themselves on each community helper, color each community helper, and look at the sentence that says, "My turn" and copy the same sentence on the lines where it says, "Your turn." Community helper pictures include: nurse, doctor, dentist, firefighter, veterinarian, mail carrier, police officer, chef, and construction worker.

With this community helpers packet, students can write sentences about 9 different community helpers and what they do they do to help their community. As students are learning the difference between singular and plural nouns, coming up with sentences using those nouns is our next step. My students love booklets of any kind that they can refer back to. Once they have come up with their sentences, they will include pictures that they print and cut out, draw pictures freehand, or find pictures in a magazine that they can add to each page of the booklet to connect with what they wrote about. This gives students the opportunity to connect what they are learning about in the classroom with their own personal interests.
