Students compare 4 water containers quantitatively for how effectively they keep water warm and cold. They also compare them qualitatively, looking at price, durability, design and other subjective measures.

This is a cross curricular project which combines art, math, narrative writing and geography. Suited for grade 6 to 8. The project includes graphic organizers, a story plot diagram and rubrics for all work. This ties in with the curriculum for each subject area. It is also good for Halloween time or any time.
Real-Life Math Fun Activity! Practical Stats - Do tall students jump high?

It is always a good strategy to review essential skills with your students, and this is right up there with the most essential!
Do tall students jump high and far? Do the same students jump high and far? Students collect their own quantitative data to answer these and other questions. The data collection does not take long. Afterwards, students calculate the measures of central tendency - mean, median, mode, Q1, Q3, min, max, range and upper and lower outliers (extremes). The handout (with complete answer key for the teacher) contains the formulas students need in order to do all calculations.
This project has been tried, tested and refined in my own middle and high school classes for many years.

This Unit Rate and Ratios project and practice worksheets are the perfect way to review and complete a real world ice cream shop project using ratios and unit rates. Students will get 4 worksheets with a guided example and turn and talk up on top that cover ratio language, solving real world ratio problems and real world unit rate problems. A scrappy quilt uses a variety of different fabrics that may or may not use a consistent theme. In this new version of cut and paste, students will make a scrappy quilt using a variety of pattern blocks included in the activity. The students must complete a set of questions or activities to know what numbered pattern to use and where it should be placed on their quilt. Each quilt has its own color scheme (color chart) and those are the colors students will need to create a one-of-a-kind scrappy quilt. Each quilt comes with a header, and some have additional activities students must complete to finish their quilts. Each quilt once assembled with header is 11x14 inches (does not include the size if a quilt has an additional activity).

Decimal Multiplication Math - Cotton Candy Stand - Project Based Learning

Are you looking for a fun way to practice multiplication, subtraction, and addition with decimals? Then look no further! This is an engaging activity for all students. This is a fun math project to practice multiplication with decimals. Students will get to put their math skills into practice in a real life situation. They will create a mock cotton candy stand where they will have to be in charge of buying their product, figuring out how much each customer owes, and how much they will profit. This activity lets each student set up their own cotton candy stand, so all their answers may differ. At the end of the activity students will determine if their cotton candy stand was successful, whether they made a big enough profit to do it again.
This activity has students practice multiplying, dividing, and subtracting numbers with decimals.
What's included:
- A letter to the teacher explaining the task.
- A letter to the students (business owner) explaining their task.
- A page for students to create their own sign for their shop.
- The product page, where students will pick what products they will buy.
- Hourly sales page (There are two options) One will break it down for each step and there is another page that is more challenging for your higher math students to stretch their thinking and not lay out each step explicitly.
