Lesson Overview

These projects have students using real-world math skills to learn to perform the calculations that are done in various careers within the seventeen career clusters. They will use math skills to learn how to compute measurements, quantities, profit, etc. to solve problems commonly found in that career field.

It is always a good strategy to review essential skills with your students.

This DIY hands-on project takes students through the process of collecting, sharing, representing and analyzing qualitative data. Students collect data on the brand, color and type of cars and then present their data in bar and circle graphs.

I have done this project multiple times, have "ironed out any administrative wrinkles" in the practical application of the project and it works every time. Students have a lot fun with the project. They take ownership of the project, since they collect the data themselves.

Students will use their knowledge of the 6th grade math core and prior math concepts to plan their own party. The “What Will My Car Cost?” project allows students to build skills in Internet research and critical thinking as they research costs for a car and then compute and compare payment options using Microsoft Excel. First, students research the cost for two car options (one used and one new) and then compare financing and payment options for these using formulas in Microsoft Excel. The step-by-step directions were created for Microsoft Excel 2016, but could easily be used with earlier versions of the software. Editable templates and samples are provided for both Microsoft Excel 2016 and earlier versions (2007-2013).

The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be adapted for high school students.

Are you looking for a unit that crosses all curriculum borders? Are you looking for a unit that encompasses problem solving, journaling, team work and so much more!?!?!

This is a 10-15 day CROSS CURRICULUM lesson! It includes tasks from Math, LA, Science, Art, Social Studies, and more! There are two different videos that I have included.

The scenario: we have to leave Earth because of pollution. Students are part of the New Beginnings Mission and they must settle a colony on a new planet. Tasks include map making, decimal multiplication, scale drawings, team building, geometric drawings, research, measurement conversions, and more. It is presented in PowerPoint format. The first slide is an overview. All worksheets are included as slides that can be printed. There are also instructions included in the notes section of each slide.

This Order of Operations Mystery Project will have your students excited to review Order of Operations using PEMDAS or GEMDAS! They will be solving 36 questions involving order of operations. They will get 6 clue sheets with 6 questions on each sheet. The answer choice leftover is the answer to that part of the mystery. They will fill in a storyline with their clues to see the whole mystery come together!

This project is the perfect print and go activity! There is a rubric included and an answer key. Grading couldn't be more simple.
