This is a detailed resource comprising Guy Fawkes Night: The Gunpowder Plot Reading Comprehension Passages and Questions. It is about the infamous Gunpowder Plot of 1605, a dramatic event that has shaped British history and is still celebrated today on Bonfire Night, also known as Fireworks Night.

Designed for students in grades 6, 7, 8, and 9, these passages help learners develop comprehension and critical thinking skills as they explore the events that led to Bonfire Night.

How to use Trimino puzzle:

Simply print out and cut up the puzzle pieces and let your pupils put them back together. Students need to match the word with the correct picture.

Print out a few puzzles and turn it into a competition. Whoever resolves the puzzle first, wins. It can be also played in teams.

An Escape Room activity looking at the outbreak of the bubonic plague in London between 1664 and 1666, known as the Great Plague. In Task 1 students will read an informational text about the Great Plague and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards that cover key events of the 1600s before putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.

The Industrial Revolution, often categorized into the First Industrial Revolution and Second Industrial Revolution, marked a transitional phase in the global economy towards more extensive, efficient, and consistent manufacturing methods, following the Second Agricultural Revolution. A Google Forms close reading passage with comprehension and grammar questions followed by an extension task about the legendary figure from English medieval folklore, Robin Hood.

The NO PREP informational text activity is ideal for distance learning and perfect for students in fifth grade or sixth grade. The resource, which also comes in PDF format, allows students to learn key facts about the famous figure whilst working on their comprehension skills.

This activity is an online resource, that uses Google Forms, and is linked to your Google Drive. It can be completed by students online using tablets, phones or computers, and is easily assessed by teachers as all the answers are provided in a quick and easy format.

Time allowance to complete:

5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.

40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)

Time allowance to assess:

A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.

Please ensure when you download this resource into Google Drive that you are logged in to the gmail account where you wish to store the activity. In the past teachers have downloaded resources into their school account in error. Thanks :)

A William the Conqueror, or King William I, Escape Room activity. Ideal for fifth grade or sixth grade, the activity is perfect for group work, starting a new topic about the Middle Ages, team-building activities or for a fun, engaging and interactive lesson. The activity can be used in English class as it incorporates some ELA skills or in Social Studies.

The activity has been split into four different tasks; your students will need to complete each of the tasks to reveal a word. Together the four words make a phrase for them to escape the room.

In Task 1 students will read an informational text about William the Conqueror and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards about important historical events from the Middle Ages before putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.
