$5 - $10 6th Grade en Français Activities (by date, oldest first)

Imagine math classes that require zero prep, zero paper, zero planning, and slides which not only prompt your students to engage, discuss, solve and prove their understanding, but prompt you to teach concepts at a slow, realistic pace! This is one my paperless teaching products; where my 89-page Slide Deck will take your hand and guide you to teach following a workshop model. I provide ample explanations, examples, step-by-step instruction, assessment and answer keys. This is EXHAUSTIVE! At the end of this document, you'll find 45 pages of printable activities which can be used for assessment, revision, activities to leave with a substitute teacher.

This was created (and used!) for students in grades 5-7 and works great for older students on IEPs, students en adaptation scolaire, as revision for older grades, or for online learning. Partner work and independent work are imbedded in the slides. Students receive many guided explanations so they can work independently.

Let me teach you - and your students - how charts and data work and how to interpret and analyze statistics. This resource is 50% Slide Deck and 50% printable activities.

• The Slide Deck has been beautified and is loaded with practice, examples, conversation-starters, small group work and whole group discussions. In your Slide Deck, you will have access to:
  • A collaborative revision and check-in or their prior knowledge relating to charts.
  • Why we use charts, and the purpose they serve.
  • The elements of a "good" chart and how to tick off those boxes!
  • Analysis of "bad" charts.
  • Interpreting charts based on numbers.
  • How to analyse a chart for specific information (counting participants by category and total, finding preferences or "favorites," pinpointing specific values, etc).
  • A look at contemporary surveys and careers in surveying.
  • A whole-group co-constructed survey and data representation activity on sandwich preferences.
  • Guided teaching on the construction of a chart including all elements with step-by-step instructions.
  • An in-depth look at making a diagram precise and accurate (i.e. equally spaced scales on the x and y axes, how to represent "0" and how to represent data that fall "in between" the scale values.
  • An explanation on counting values and totals.
  • A collaborative, discussion-based activity on how charts would change if there were added values, added categories, etc.
  • Independent practice creating a bar chart using data about cereal preferences.
  • A partner activity on comparing charts.
  • A look into other types of charts (line charts, broken line charts, pie charts).
  • An explanation for continuous and discrete data.
  • A simple game on continuous and discrete data (with answer keys imbedded in the slides for self-correction).
  • A look into axis breaks.

In addition to the 45 pages of teachable content, games and guided instruction, there are 43 printable activities and answer keys, including :

• 5 math situations where students create diagrams based on data and answer questions to deepen their understanding. Among these situations, you'll find:

  • A survey on electrical and gas-powered vehicles ;
  • A survey about pets and kindergarteners ;
  • A scholarly debate about field trips ;
  • A look into the growth of a plant over 10 weeks ;
  • A study into temperature changes.

• 11 authentic (yet fictional!) real-life situations to interpret data within diagrams. Among these activities, you'll find:

Primary French Speaking Prompts: 100 Question Cards for Discussion

Use this set of primary French speaking prompt cards to get even your most timid students talking to each other in French.

This no prep activity is perfect for small groups or centers. You can also use the powerpoint version to make it a whole class activity. These speaking cards are perfect for FRENCH IMMERSION or CORE FRENCH. You can easily use these cards as a review with French students at any level (even high school).

This resource is part of my Primary French Growing Bundle!

Included: 100 speaking prompts (color and black and white copies provided), Powerpoint presentation version to project to the whole class and / or modify as desired.

There are many ways you can use this set of 100 speaking cards:

➤ Print, laminate, cut out, punch holes & attach on a ring for small groups to ask and answer questions.

➤ Project the powerpoint showing questions to the whole class and have them answer the questions with a neighbor.

➤ Use as a warm-up speaking activity with a conversation buddy. As students enter the classroom have them choose 2-3 cards from a box.

➤ Students who finish their work earlier than others can choose a few of the cards and write out their answers.

➤ Use as exit tickets. Give each student a card before the end of class and as they walk out of the room they tell the teacher their answer.

➤ Stations: Put students into groups and divide the cards amongst them. Have groups rotate to a new station as they finish the cards.

➤ Scoot: Put one card on each desk in the classroom. Give each student a response sheet and set a timer to give them just enough time to answer the question. When the timer rings students move on to the next desk and the next question.

➤ Use the cards with board games. Students must answer a question in order to move.

➤ Use the cards as a getting to know you activity.

➤ Great resource for tutoring sessions.

Primary French Speaking Prompts: 100 Question Cards for Discussion

French This or That Activity - Ceci ou Cela French Icebreaker

This French ceci ou cela - this or that activity is perfect for back to school, end of the year, or anytime when everyone wants to have a little fun with French.

Use this "this or that" activity as a French speaking activity for partners or groups, as a whole-class activity you project for the entire class.

Alternatively, you can make this a moving around activity. Students start by standing in a big group. When the choices on the cards are read, they move to the side of the room that is associated with their choice (see the arrows on the cards). Those who can’t make up their mind or don’t have a preference remain in the center. Students will see all of the things that they have in common with their classmates and will likely learn some new vocabulary while they’re at it. This is a great back to school ice-breaker!

This activity requires no teacher prep once the set of cards is printed and cut out. If you don’t want to print, there’s a PDF with only one card per page that you can project and play as a whole class activity.

Play French scattergories when you need a quick, no prep activity to review and practice vocabulary. Le Petit Bac sera le jeu parfait! You can play this game with students of any age or level. 24 games are included with 96 different categories!

Players attempt to create answers for each of the four categories on their game. This should be a fast moving game and there are only spaces for six words per category. The MAXIMUM they can write is six words so they have to choose them wisely. Students can be creative and flexible with their answers, but other players can challenge them! Save with the bundle!

Expect your students to:

• be competitive as they are challenged to make their lists
• want to play again and again
• practice several skills at once
• enjoy stretching their thinking
• practice brainstorming and fluency
• play these games with multiple age groups and abilities
• love having this as a word work option

Classroom scattergories games are great icebreakers for the beginning of the year, a fun game for the end of the year, or perfect to play throughout the year!

Play as a full class with the students playing individually or in pairs or teams to complete each round. The game can be made as short or long as you want it, so it's also a fun time filler that keeps students thinking.

Students or teams write in answers for each category on the list. When the timer’s up, stop writing and share answers for scoring.

Dictée #1 : This dictée is less than 3 minutes. Give each student a response sheet.

Students listen to the dictée and write the number they hear both as words and digits.

Dictée #2 : This dictée lasts about 10 minutes and requires a lot of concentration. It is called CALCUL RAPIDE. Students hear 50 simple math equations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Technically students as young as 9 or 10 should be able to do the math. I got this idea from my daughter’s 3rd grade class in France (CE2). Of course, being in French makes “simple math” a lot more difficult and will challenge even high school age non-native speakers.

French speaking game - Tell me 3 things - Dis-moi trois choses

This is a simple French speaking game that includes 100 cards. This activity can easily be modified according to different levels. Intermediate to advanced level students work in pairs or small groups and take turns choosing a card and saying three things about what is written on it. Other students listen closely and can react and / or ask questions. The vocabulary is completely random and varied. All of the cards are written in French only, so it may be helpful to have a dictionary on hand if some of the words / expressions are new. This game is included in my French Ice-Breaker Bundle.

If you're struggling to find an original and engaging activity for your beginner French students to practice and review regular ER, IR, and RE verbs, you are going to love these 3 listening comprehension and writing activities in the present tense. Peek at the preview for a closer look at these fun storyboard activities!

• Listen to the 15 pre-recorded present tense sentences being read
• Draw what you hear on the student response sheet provided
• Write the infinitive form of the verb being used in the sentence

These activities can be used for listening comprehension and written production at the same time, instructions included.

If your students have access to colored pencils you may choose to use the recordings that indicate which color they should use to draw and write. The color they should use is clearly indicated in French at the beginning or appropriate time in the reading of the sentence.

A recording without the use of colors is also included.

Some students will say they can’t draw, but stick figures should be encouraged! None of the sentences represent a real drawing challenge.

French Verb Savoir + Infinitive - Games and Activities BUNDLE

1. Le jeu des sept familles - This classic card game is fun for students of all ages! This version is for practicing the SAVOIR + INFINITIVE to say you know how to do something. Each of the 7 "families of cards" begins with one of the following, and conjugations in the present tense are used in the JE - TU - IL - NOUS - VOUS - ILS forms:
