Writing prompts are the fast and easy No-Prep way of adding to your K-2 writing program. Aligned with the Science of Reading, students engage decoding and encoding skills. The vocabulary used in this resource follows a progression recommended by many school boards and is in lock step with what is being promoted by IDAPEL and ONLit websites for teaching French language in today's classrooms.

Once you have a grasp on all the simple sounds in French, the magic happens when you get students writing. They don't even notice that all the words used are from their very own memory banks and are all decodable words from past lessons.

Who can use this resource:

Teachers who are just getting accustomed to using strategies from the Science of Reading can use these simple texts to open up independent practice, small group evaluation, or up on a digital screen for whole group instruction and reading practice.

Make a set and send them home with students to build fluency in writing and confidence in writing strategies.

The prompts are designed to offer many variations for students to use their imaginations and to build confidence in their own writing.

Correction sheet is handy for use with a substitute as they can confidently assess students and command the lesson even when they are not assured of their French skills.

What grade level:

I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French writing skills. Core French teachers will be sure to add the resource to their repertoire for Grades 4 to 6 as they learn to read and write at the Junior level.

Science of Reading:

These prompts are aligned with sounds being taught in any Science of Reading aligned curriculum. They are set up for student success based on the research for increasing writing proficiency and building student confidence in the classroom!

Once you have established the strategies for identifying sounds, initial sounds, and blending sounds, segmenting sounds, students will be able to use these self-driven passages on their own. What a great way to build learning autonomy!

French Freebie: Activity to get your students speaking

This resource is very similar to another one (also free) in which you'll have students talking about the house, hotel, vacation, etc. of their worst nightmares. Students will talk all about the house, etc. of their dreams in this one. I like to use these resources one after the other while the content is still fresh, but the vocabulary will change dramatically when students shift from what they would love to what would give them nightmares!

This is a no prep, one page activity for intermediate to advanced level students, and the content is perfectly suitable both for primary (French immersion) and secondary curriculums. There are fifteen questions that will have them talking about, for example, the house of their dreams. This is meant to be a paired or small group activity, but it is NOT meant to just have students take turns describing what they would love. The idea is to imagine that everyone in the group is going to live in the house together. There will probably be some things that everyone agrees on, and there will certainly be things they will disagree on. When I have my students do this activity, it's always fun to watch them debate what is and what is not important. In the end, they can agree to disagree! My students really have a good time with this activity, and I love seeing the imagination that they have!

Make a few copies of each text and insert into clear pockets to create a quick and easy reading centre; arrange a table with four copies to create a quiet reading group; use one-on-one with your students to assess reading levels, to gain insights to their decoding skills, and to inform your upcoming lesson plans. This 14-page math situation will have your students creating a budget, following a budget, estimating and calculating total costs and creating their own super surprise bag! It will push your students' financial literacy and understanding of receipts, budgets, costs and quantities of items.

In this 14 page document, you'll find printable price lists, activities and the answer keys for all of the activities. Here are the activities you'll find in this document:

• Price list for all items covered in the printable activity pack;
• An activity on estimating costs (using mental math and multiplying decimal numbers);
• An activity on calculating the true cost of items (using algorithmic multiplication of whole and decimal numbers);
• 4 "questions d'approfondissement" where students write their answers in word form;
• An activity on calculating totals with various items and quantities;
• An activity on calculating items based on quantity, finding a subtotal, adding in taxes, and calculating the final total of a purchase ;
• A shopping bag activity to calculate Mme Janie's totals ;

This fun activity packet is great to use as revision, as a reward activity, and works EXCELLENT for a substitute plan! It covers me for roughly 2 math classes. Le Printemps - French 20 Questions Game for Spring The game of 20 questions is a fun and effective way to practice forming French questions and in these 3 versions of the game, students will practice asking questions about 156 different nouns and adjectives related to SPRING - PRINTEMPS. There is a French - English set and one that is only in French. Click here for an English only version in my English resources store
Included: 3 versions with 56 words each in French and English 3 versions with 56 words each in French Have students work in small groups of 2-4 or project the version of the game that you want to use and do a whole class activity. Each version includes 52 words. Many of the words will likely be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice asking questions, but also to build and reinforce vocabulary. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the words written on the chart. One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word. French Number Lines are not always easy to find to fit the tone and feeling of your classroom! I have developed this number line with simple font and easy to read numbers and words so that your students can get started on reading their numbers together. This bright coloured French Number Line will look great in your classroom whether you are just starting out or if you need a fresh new look part-way through the year!

What to expect:

-Numerical bubble with one number in each circle

-numbers 1 to 100 (with an extra bubble with '0' in it for use if you choose)*

*Please note the font I chose does not have an 'accent aigu' so you will have to add it in your own hand.

I have added this number line to my classroom and the students started organically using it whenever a number comes up in conversation. We have a clear gateway to practice from any number and we count forward and backward depending on the whim of the day. Students love to be the one to choose our number of the day and we get counting!

French 20 questions games - Small group or whole class no prep activities

The game of 20 questions is a fun and effective way to practice forming French questions and in these 5 versions of the game, students will learn over 250 nouns that go beyond what they learn from a textbook chapter theme or every day classroom vocabulary.

5 versions with vocabulary written in French and English

5 versions with vocabulary written in French only

Have students work in small groups of 2-4 or project the version of the game that you want to use and do a whole class activity.

Each version includes 52 words. Many of the words will be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice forming questions, but also to build vocabulary. After they've played the games a few times looking at the French-English version they feel more prepared to move on to the French only version.

One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word.

Flip Card decks are so handy for the classroom. I use them in small group work to assess and teach specific sounds, combinations of CV sounds, and to decode words together. The large format cards are great for my Grade 1 students as we can do a lot of whole class instruction and the students have so much fun coming up to the front of the class to come up with the 'really hard' CV combinations for their peers to read out loud.

Use the smaller sets for learning centres, individual work, and pair work as your students get familiar with their phonological awareness and phonemic awareness. My students happen to love 'testing' each other by flipping the cards, saying the sound, and then waiting as their 'students' write what they think is the correct letter on their whiteboards!

We love them so much as we can sneak in a little decoding and Science of Reading whenever we get a minute or two of time to fill.

Any French educator who is wanting to practice, assess, and deepen their students understanding of sound work in French. This item is suitable for French Immersion, Core French, and French instruction at any level. Il s'agit d'une révision thématique amusante pour passer en revue les décimales avec vos élèves. Cela fonctionne très bien comme brise-glace au début de l'année (pour la 5e/6e!) et fonctionne très bien à la fin de l'année (pour la 4e!) ou comme atelier ou centre amusant pour les 4e, 5e ou 6e. Ce document contient 9 pages:

• 5 pages de 'circulaires' réalistes mais fictifs!
• 6 listes de courses différentes.
• Une copie reproductible/vierge pour créer une liste de course.

Cette "Math Boutique" est la 2e de la collection! Elle permet à vos élèves d'additionner et de multiplier des nombres décimaux avec un nombre entier. J'ai créé des circulaires réalistes mais fictifs qui présentent des produits alimentaires ainsi que des pages thématiques. J'ai également inclus plusieurs listes de courses réalistes mais fictives que vos élèves peuvent utiliser pour cette activité.

J'utilise cette activité à diverses fins. Voici quelques possibilités :

• Demandez à vos élèves de travailler seuls ou à deux pour calculer le total de leur facture d'épicerie ;
• Demandez à vos élèves de comparer les totaux avec les autres ou de se classer du plus petit au plus grand ;
• Demandez à vos élèves d'arrondir les totaux à la hausse ou à la baisse en fonction de la valeur de position sur laquelle vous travaillez ;
• Demandez à vos élèves d'estimer avant d'ajouter leurs éléments ensemble ;
• Faites comparer ces circulaires à vos élèves avec de vrais circulaires en ligne ou sous forme de papier pour trouver le meilleur prix possible ;
• Demandez à vos élèves d'essayer de dresser une liste d'épicerie qui totalise le même (ou aussi près que possible) en utilisant d'autres articles.

This card game is an excellent way to practice and memorize verb conjugations, and it will have your students speaking to each other in French the whole time! In the deck of 42 cards there are 7 families of 6 cards (je - tu - il - nous - vous - ils).

One player distributes five cards to each player (2 to 4 per group). The rest of the cards are placed in the "pioche". One player begins the game by asking another player to give him a card. He might say, "Dans la famille DANSER, est-ce que tu as J'AI DANSÉ?" or "Dans la famille PARLER, est-ce que tu as NOUS N'AVONS PAS PARLÉ?"

The goal is to come up with a complete family. If the player doesn't have it, he says "pioche". If he draws the card that he asked for, he can continue to play and ask someone for another card. Each time a player comes up with all six members of a family, he can make a stack. At the end of the game, the player with the most sets of families wins!

Pays, Villes, Continents - French 20 questions geographical locations games The game of 20 questions is a fun and effective way to practice forming French questions and in these 3 versions of the game, students will practice asking questions about 156 different geographical locations including cities, countries and continents all written in French. ⇒This resource is included in my French 2 grammar, vocabulary, task cards, games and activities GROWING BUNDLE
Included: 3 versions with 52 geographical locations each Have students work in small groups of 2-4 or project the version of the game that you want to use and do a whole class activity. Each version includes 52 geographical locations. Many of the places will be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice asking questions about cities, countries and continents, but also to build and reinforce geography skills. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the places written on the chart. One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word. EST-CE QUE……. … tu es une ville? … tu es un pays? … tu es un continent? … tu es en Afrique? … tu es un pays chaud? … tu es un pays froid? … tu es une île? ... etc... The student who has chosen the secret word can answer using the following responses: OUI - NON - PARFOIS - RAREMENT - GÉNÉRALEMENT - PEUT-ÊTRE - CELA DÉPEND - PROBABLEMENT Alternative game play: To change up the game and to make it more challenging as well as practicing other skills, have the student who chooses the secret word describe it to others in the group. Instead of asking questions about the secret word, other students listen to the description and guess it.

French Dots and Boxes Game - MANGER - PRESENT TENSE - No prep printable

An easy and fun no-prep game that will elicit a lot of exposure and pronunciation for the target vocabulary and grammar when teaching present tense MANGER with and without negation. This is a one-page dots & boxes game including directions. This game could be laminated and used repeatedly with dry-erase markers or played on an iPad with annotation/whiteboard tools.

Objective: Complete more boxes than your component. Each player draws lines using a different color. On your turn, make a horizontal or vertical line from one dot to another. Say the verbs on either side of the line you drew. If you complete a box on your turn, draw an X in the box using your color. Once all of the boxes have been completed, count to see who got the most.
