Make a few copies of each text and insert into clear pockets to create a quick and easy reading centre; arrange a table with four copies to create a quiet reading group; use one-on-one with your students to assess reading levels, to gain insights to their decoding skills, and to inform your upcoming lesson plans. Who can use this resource:

Teachers who are just getting accustomed to using strategies from the Science of Reading can use these simple texts to open up independent practice, small group evaluation, or up on a digital screen for whole group instruction and reading practice.

Make a set and send them home with students to build fluency in reading and confidence in reading strategies.

Texts are designed to build a number of common French sounds and get more challenging as they go on.

Correction sheet is handy for use with a substitute as they can confidently assess students and command the lesson even when they are not assured of their French skills.

I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills. My students love playing this quick game during learning centers. This game includes a version with directions printed on the board and a version without directions. Flip Card decks are so handy for the classroom. I use them in small group work to assess and teach specific sounds, combinations of CV sounds, and to decode words together. The large format cards are great for my Grade 1 students as we can do a lot of whole class instruction and the students have so much fun coming up to the front of the class to come up with the 'really hard' CV combinations for their peers to read out loud.

Use the smaller sets for learning centres, individual work, and pair work as your students get familiar with their phonological awareness and phonemic awareness. My students happen to love 'testing' each other by flipping the cards, saying the sound, and then waiting as their 'students' write what they think is the correct letter on their whiteboards!

We love them so much as we can sneak in a little decoding and Science of Reading whenever we get a minute or two of time to fill.

Who can use this resource:

Any French educator who is wanting to practice, assess, and deepen their students understanding of sound work in French. This item is suitable for French Immersion, Core French, and French instruction at any level. Students in the Core French environment can benefit from using these sets independently for writing assignments and group activities. Le jeu des sept familles - This classic card game is fun for students of all ages! Looking for easy prep literacy activities for independent work during differentiated reading instruction? This version of the game is for practicing FAIRE PRESENT TENSE CONJUGATIONS and SPORTS.

Each of the 7 "families of cards" begins with one of the following, and conjugations in the present tense are used in the JE - TU - IL - NOUS - VOUS - ILS forms.

• Je fais + sport
• Je ne fais pas + sport
• Est-ce que je fais + sport

42 playing cards to print on heavy paper or card stock

This card game is an excellent way to practice and memorize verb conjugations. It will have your students speaking to each other in French the whole time! They will make affirmative and negative statements and will use EST-CE QUE to form simple questions.

One player distributes five cards to each player (2 to 4 per group). The rest of the cards are placed in the "pioche". One player begins the game by asking another player to give him a card. He or she might say, "Est-ce que tu fais du karaté?"

The goal is to come up with complete families. The different verbs represent the families. There are 6 cards to a family (JE - TU - IL - NOUS- VOUS - ILS). Students will find it helpful to group together the cards that have the same picture at the top (flower, flip-flops, etc.) If the player doesn't have it, he says "pioche". If he draws the card that he asked for, he can continue to play and ask someone for another card. Each time a player comes up with all six members of a family, he can make a stack. At the end of the game, the player with the most sets of families wins!

French Freebie: Activity to get your students speaking

This resource is very similar to another one (also free) in which you'll have students talking about the house, hotel, vacation, etc. of their worst nightmares. Students will talk all about the house, etc. of their dreams in this one. I like to use these resources one after the other while the content is still fresh, but the vocabulary will change dramatically when students shift from what they would love to what would give them nightmares!

This is a no prep, one page activity for intermediate to advanced level students, and the content is perfectly suitable both for primary (French immersion) and secondary curriculums. There are fifteen questions that will have them talking about, for example, the house of their dreams. This is meant to be a paired or small group activity, but it is NOT meant to just have students take turns describing what they would love. The idea is to imagine that everyone in the group is going to live in the house together. There will probably be some things that everyone agrees on, and there will certainly be things they will disagree on. When I have my students do this activity, it's always fun to watch them debate what is and what is not important. In the end, they can agree to disagree! My students really have a good time with this activity, and I love seeing the imagination that they have!

Le Printemps - French 20 Questions Game for Spring The game of 20 questions is a fun and effective way to practice forming French questions and in these 3 versions of the game, students will practice asking questions about 156 different nouns and adjectives related to SPRING - PRINTEMPS. Included: 3 versions with 56 words each in French and English 3 versions with 56 words each in French Have students work in small groups of 2-4 or project the version of the game that you want to use and do a whole class activity. Each version includes 52 words. Many of the words will likely be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice asking questions, but also to build and reinforce vocabulary. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the words written on the chart. One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word. French 20 questions games - Small group or whole class no prep activities

The game of 20 questions is a fun and effective way to practice forming French questions and in these 5 versions of the game, students will learn over 250 nouns that go beyond what they learn from a textbook chapter theme or every day classroom vocabulary.

Have students work in small groups of 2-4 or project the version of the game that you want to use and do a whole class activity.

Each version includes 52 words. Many of the words will be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice forming questions, but also to build vocabulary. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the words. After they've played the games a few times looking at the French-English version they feel more prepared to move on to the French only version.

One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word.

Set 1: 42 playing cards to print on heavy paper or card stock

Set 2: 42 playing cards to print on heavy paper or card stock

This card game is an excellent way to practice and memorize verb conjugations, and it will have your students speaking to each other in French the whole time! In the deck of 42 cards there are 7 families of 6 cards (je - tu - il - nous - vous - ils).

One player distributes five cards to each player (2 to 4 per group). The rest of the cards are placed in the "pioche". One player begins the game by asking another player to give him a card. He might say, "Dans la famille DANSER, est-ce que tu as J'AI DANSÉ?" or "Dans la famille PARLER, est-ce que tu as NOUS N'AVONS PAS PARLÉ?"

The goal is to come up with a complete family. If the player doesn't have it, he says "pioche". If he draws the card that he asked for, he can continue to play and ask someone for another card. Each time a player comes up with all six members of a family, he can make a stack. At the end of the game, the player with the most sets of families wins!

Pays, Villes, Continents - French 20 questions geographical locations games The game of 20 questions is a fun and effective way to practice forming French questions and in these 3 versions of the game, students will practice asking questions about 156 different geographical locations including cities, countries and continents all written in French. ⇒This resource is included in my French 2 grammar, vocabulary, task cards, games and activities GROWING BUNDLE
Included: 3 versions with 52 geographical locations each Have students work in small groups of 2-4 or project the version of the game that you want to use and do a whole class activity. Each version includes 52 geographical locations. Many of the places will be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice asking questions about cities, countries and continents, but also to build and reinforce geography skills. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the places written on the chart. One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word. EST-CE QUE……. … tu es une ville? … tu es un pays? … tu es un continent? … tu es en Afrique? … tu es un pays chaud? … tu es un pays froid? … tu es une île? ... etc... The student who has chosen the secret word can answer using the following responses: OUI - NON - PARFOIS - RAREMENT - GÉNÉRALEMENT - PEUT-ÊTRE - CELA DÉPEND - PROBABLEMENT Alternative game play: To change up the game and to make it more challenging as well as practicing other skills, have the student who chooses the secret word describe it to others in the group. Instead of asking questions about the secret word, other students listen to the description and guess it.

This is a one-page dots & boxes game including directions. This game could be laminated and used repeatedly with dry-erase markers or played on an iPad with annotation/whiteboard tools.

Objective: Complete more boxes than your component. Each player draws lines using a different color. On your turn, make a horizontal or vertical line from one dot to another. Say the verbs on either side of the line you drew. If you complete a box on your turn, draw an X in the box using your color. Once all of the boxes have been completed, count to see who got the most.
