Flip Card decks are so handy for the classroom. I use them in small group work to assess and teach specific sounds, combinations of CV sounds, and to decode words together. The large format cards are great for my Grade 1 students as we can do a lot of whole class instruction and the students have so much fun coming up to the front of the class to come up with the 'really hard' CV combinations for their peers to read out loud.

Use the smaller sets for learning centres, individual work, and pair work as your students get familiar with their phonological awareness and phonemic awareness. My students happen to love 'testing' each other by flipping the cards, saying the sound, and then waiting as their 'students' write what they think is the correct letter on their whiteboards!

We love them so much as we can sneak in a little decoding and Science of Reading whenever we get a minute or two of time to fill.

Any French educator who is wanting to practice, assess, and deepen their students understanding of sound work in French. This item is suitable for French Immersion, Core French, and French instruction at any level. Students in the Core French environment can benefit from using these sets independently for writing assignments and group activities. How to use:

1. I Have, Who Has? Card Game

Print out, cut up. It can be played in small or large groups. Hand out all of

the cards to pupils, each has roughly the same number of cards. The student

with the 1st card starts by asking Who has...? The pupil with the matching

card replies and asks Who has...? The game finishes when pupils get to the

last card.

During the activity teacher monitors the correct use of articles.

2. Memory Game

Print out and cut up. It can be played in small groups. For bigger classes

print out several times and play in a number of groups. Students look for pairs.

TIP: Print a copy for each student and use as a picture dictionary. Students

cut out the pictures, glue them into their notebooks and add

descriptions.

Directions

Materials Needed:

• One of the 10 worksheets or the editable template where you add your own words
• A regular six-sided die
• Colors
• Optional: A device with a QR code scanner (phone, tablet, etc.)

Rolling the Die:

• Students roll a six-sided die to determine which color word they read in Spanish.
• Students can also scan the QR code on the worksheet using a device with a QR code scanner to access a virtual dice roller.

Reading the Word:

• Students match the number rolled with the corresponding color word on their worksheet.
• Students read aloud the color in Spanish to practice pronunciation.

Marking Progress:

• Once students read a word, they should shade in color the box using the color that matches the Spanish word read.
• If students roll a number they have already completed, they should roll again until they land on a new word.
• Students continue rolling and reading until they have completed all the words on their worksheet.

French Decodable texts that align with the Science of Reading and current available reading education concepts. The easy to use texts can be utilised in the classroom with little to no preparation. Make a few copies of each text and insert into clear pockets to create a quick and easy reading centre; arrange a table with four copies to create a quiet reading group; use one-on-one with your students to assess reading levels, to gain insights to their decoding skills, and to inform your upcoming lesson plans. Teachers who are just getting accustomed to using strategies from the Science of Reading can use these simple texts to open up independent practice, small group evaluation, or up on a digital screen for whole group instruction and reading practice.

Do your students struggle to grasp the difference between various verb endings? This verb-sorting activity will give them hands-on practice with this often tricky topic! In this activity, your students will sort the given list of 36 conjugated Spanish verbs into six categories: yo, tú, él/ella/usted, nosotros, vosotros, and ellos/ellas/ustedes. You could easily adapt this activity for other tenses, simply by providing your own list. In addition to the hands-on practice, each resource also includes two worksheet versions with the same verbs. This resource contains:

• one verb sorting sheet
• one page of thirty six conjugated -ar verbs in Spanish with dotted lines for cutting
• one worksheet where students choose the correct subject pronoun and translate the verb to English
• one worksheet where students choose the correct subject pronoun and write an original sentence in Spanish using the indicated verb
• answer keys for the sentence sorting sheet and both worksheets
• tips for using the resource and a table of contents

The verbs practiced in this set are tomar, escuchar, comprar, trabajar, estudiar, and hablar.

If you're struggling to find an original and engaging activity for your beginner French students to practice and review regular IR verbs, you are going to love these listening comprehension and writing activities in the present tense. Peek at the preview for a closer look at these fun storyboard activities which also exist for ER verbs, RE verbs, and in a money saving bundle!

• Listen to the 15 pre-recorded present tense sentences being read
• Draw what you hear on the student response sheet provided
• Write the infinitive form of the verb being used in the sentence

These activities can be used for listening comprehension and written production at the same time, instructions included.

If your students have access to colored pencils you may choose to use the recordings that indicate which color they should use to draw and write. The color they should use is clearly indicated in French at the beginning or appropriate time in the reading of the sentence.

A recording without the use of colors is also included.

Some students will say they can’t draw, but stick figures should be encouraged! None of the sentences represent a real drawing challenge.

No answer keys are provided for the drawings due to the nature of the activity. However, assessment is very simple for the teacher! All you have to do is glance over the drawings. Answer keys are provided for written responses should you opt to use this as a dictation exercise.
