A card game based on the traditional game of Rummy, where normal cards are exchanged for cards that feature calculations which challenge a player's knowledge of the order of operations There are 52 cards, 4 suits, 13 cards per suit as per a normal game of rummy. Let your 6th-grade students practice while having fun with this engaging, no-prep, and self-checking order of operations mystery picture activity. This pixel art activity will be a great way to review your lesson. Students will solve 20 expressions using Google Sheets. As they correctly answer the questions a mystery picture will be revealed. I used it as a sub-plan in sixth grade and the kids loved it, they were so engaged!

It includes 20 expressions with no parenthesis and no decimals.

Do your students need practice determining equivalent expressions with exponents, the commutative property, the distributive property, and more with just numbers and with variables? This activity is great for independent practice or group work! There is one page with just numbers and one page with variables.

In each row, there are 3 equivalent expressions and one that is not equivalent. Find the odd one out. Answer Key included. Perfect for a substitute day!

Includes exponents but no negatives.

This would unfortunately not work with the "Which One Doesn't Belong" routine because for these, there is one correct answer for each set of expressions.

Page 2 has expressions with variables that make use of the distributive, commutative, and associative properties and simple exponent rules.

These KaBoom cards are a fun way to practice Order of Operations (BIDMAS, BODMAS, PEDMAS), with differentiation built in. Players choose whether they want to choose an easier question (red), but will receive less points for their correct answer, or risk a more challenging question (green) and gain greater rewards.

The red cards consist of questions involving addition and subtraction with multiplication and division. It also includes questions such as 8-2+3 which tests student’s knowledge of the equal importance of addition and subtraction.

The Yellow Cards consist of questions involving brackets and some easy powers.

The Green Card consists of more challenging Order of Operations questions including more challenging powers combined with brackets.

Begin by laying all the cards out face down (so you see only the number of points they are worth). Players take turns to select a card, either red, yellow or green. The difficulty of the questions will increase.

They may also pick up either a Steal Card, giving them a chance to steal from any other player, a Shield, which protects them from the next KaBoom, and KaBoom cards which means you lose all your collected points so far.

Play as a whole class in teams, or print multiple copies to play in small groups around the table. If students get the answer incorrect, or they need some help, use your judgement as to whether you will allow them another guess or not.

Questions answered incorrectly go in the ‘house’ pile, along with any cards lost in a KaBoom.

At the end of the game, add up the ‘house’ pile. The winner is the player or team with the highest points (including any shield cards that have been unused). The house can win.

Included are two copies of the game; one designed for a double sided printer and one designed for single sided printing where you need to turn over the pages yourself to print double sided.

Full instructions are included as are answers.

Engage your students with this fun no-prep, and self-checking order of operations group game activity. Students will practice order of operations while playing a group game using Google Sheets. I used it as a sub-plan in eighth grade and the kids loved it. As they correctly answer the questions a mystery picture will be revealed.

How to play:

Player 1 starts by solving their first problem and typing the answer in the first box of their answer section. If the answer is correct, the box will turn green. If it is incorrect, the box will remain red and Player 2 will answer their first problem. Continue taking turns until one of the players completes the mystery picture and wins the game!

Student responses won’t be visible so if a player has the opportunity to answer a question that was previously answered incorrectly, they can’t see that answer.

Practice ORDER OF OPERATIONS with this engaging, independent activity! Perfect for Valentine's Day!

Directions for Use:

*Students will be given the ORDER OF OPERATIONS page along with the Heart Page. These may be printed front to back if you choose.

*Students will answer the first question on their order of operations page. This will lead them to one of the dots on their heart page. They will make a straight line from the dot next to the answer for #1 to the dot that is next the answer to #2 (then from #2 to #3). They will start a new sequence of lines for each set.

*I recommend reading aloud the directions on the paper but also reiterate what was stated above so students truly understand the process of this activity.

*Allow students to decorate and color.

Order of Operations Student Activity Game

This is a fun and meaningful activity to keep students engaged while they practice their skills with order of operations.

Order of operation skills include:

~parentheses and brackets

~exponents

~substitution with a variable

~multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction of whole and decimal numbers

~problem-solving

The students follow a trail and correctly solve problems. If an error is made, the students will have to backtrack and correct their work!

Your students work in pairs to answer different integer addition and subtraction math problems, but the partners have the same answers! A great way to get students to self check and discuss their math!

Each student solves their first problem. Once finished, the partners check with each other. If their answers are the same, they move on to the next problem. If the students have different answers, there is an error and the they must check each other's work and find the mistake!
