Less than $5 6th Grade French Activities

Flip Card decks are so handy for the classroom. I use them in small group work to assess and teach specific sounds, combinations of CV sounds, and to decode words together. The large format cards are great for my Grade 1 students as we can do a lot of whole class instruction and the students have so much fun coming up to the front of the class to come up with the 'really hard' CV combinations for their peers to read out loud.

Use the smaller sets for learning centres, individual work, and pair work as your students get familiar with their phonological awareness and phonemic awareness. My students happen to love 'testing' each other by flipping the cards, saying the sound, and then waiting as their 'students' write what they think is the correct letter on their whiteboards!

We love them so much as we can sneak in a little decoding and Science of Reading whenever we get a minute or two of time to fill.

Any French educator who is wanting to practice, assess, and deepen their students understanding of sound work in French. This item is suitable for French Immersion, Core French, and French instruction at any level. Students in the Core French environment can benefit from using these sets independently for writing assignments and group activities. Dans ce jeu de type « trouver un ami », les élèves trouveront trois autres dont les cartes correspondent aux leurs. Imprimez, laminez, découpez. Demandez à vos élèves de partir à la recherche de trois autres élèves dont la carte correspond à la leur. Une carte a une description, une a le symbole du circuit, une a une image et une a le nom de l'article. Il y a quatre cartes pour 5 symboles différents pour un total de 20 cartes. Des cartes supplémentaires sont là pour vous permettre de créer une 6ème catégorie si besoin !

C'est une excellente activité à faire tout en apprenant les circuits et les schémas électriques. Je suggère d'utiliser cette activité comme une révision après avoir terminé mon unité d'électricité.

French Number Lines are not always easy to find to fit the tone and feeling of your classroom! I have developed this number line with simple font and easy to read numbers and words so that your students can get started on reading their numbers together. This bright coloured French Number Line will look great in your classroom whether you are just starting out or if you need a fresh new look part-way through the year!

What to expect:

-Numerical bubble with one number in each circle

-numbers 1 to 100 (with an extra bubble with '0' in it for use if you choose)*

*Please note the font I chose does not have an 'accent aigu' so you will have to add it in your own hand.

I have added this number line to my classroom and the students started organically using it whenever a number comes up in conversation. We have a clear gateway to practice from any number and we count forward and backward depending on the whim of the day. This unit study is at the level of your middle schoolers - in Core French (FSL) - both for content and maturity. I was finding materials that matched their comprehension were babyish and they'd be disengaged and frustrated! My material is engaging, animated, not babyish but at their (beginner!) level.

These slides and activities will easily get you through roughly 5 or 6 Core French classes at the 4th - 8th grade age.

This 32 page document provides you with:

• 16 'teaching' slides:

• These will prompt discussions with your students and teach them step-by-step how to make a birthday card (en Français). Students are prompted to answer the questions: "Quel âge as-tu?" "Quelle est la date de ton anniversaire?" and "En quelle saison est ton anniversaire?"

• A message du matin is provided with prompts to find les "mots amis," les "mots familiers," and les "lettres fantômes!" I push this a step further with les 8 étapes a l'oral by then getting the students to say their own age, one another's age and then I assess their oral language as they work in partners.

• Within the slides, you can edit to add your students' information for their birthdays and the seasons in which they have birthdays!

• An oral activity for your students to guess YOUR birthday ("L'anniversaire de mon enseignant") (I usually give a prize to the winner and then everyone wants in on this fun activity)

• Linking images to words,

• Writing the numbers for written numbers (and vice versa),

• Drawing candles on cakes,

• Counting en Français,

Science of Reading Assessment Tool Tracking Sheet

I created a French SOR Assessment tool to cover all the sounds for students K to 3 in the French Immersion setting (Grade 4-6 Core French) for easy assessment and evaluation. Once I got started on my own testing, I realized I could use a quick look tracking sheet.

I learned how to make the boxes editable and hope it works out for you. (I did ask a few colleagues to try it out first). I am offering it FREE for now.
