Print and Go, easy to read and understand French Sound Cards aligned with the Science of Reading SOR to support you in teaching in your K-2 classroom in French Immersion, Core French, or Modern Language Standard 1.0. Interactive and engaging language acquisition material designed to cater to those building a French program and building independence in the French Immersion classroom.

Each card can be copied, laminated, and divided. This makes the cards very adaptable for a number of uses in the classroom or in your home instruction environment. Cards may also be divided and recopied to make a matching game, memory game, or independent learning task for student on Individual Learning Plan (IEP).

How to use:

-cut and laminate the cards

-divide cards into picture card sets for games and activities

I happen to be in Ontario, Canada but these questions apply to any young learner. K-3 in the Immersion setting, Gr. 4-6 in Core French (and younger), and perfect for Homeschool students as well.

Daily routine language:

Students who are able to quickly master daily routine language feel confident to then try using less common words in class with teachers and peers. The secret to great communication is when students don’t even realize they are speaking to each other in French. This resource could set them on a path to natural, fluid speaking with confidence!

What grade level:

I personally use this visual schedule with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the images with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their understanding of their daily activities and what order their learning will take place in each day. Core French teachers will be sure to add the resource to their repertoire for Grades 4 to 6 as they learn to communicate at the Junior level.

IEP students:

We all have students with IEPs who need that extra boost to build confidence and to lessen anxieties about what is happening in class. Students quickly learn to identify each card and help each other use this language throughout the day. This has had a positive impact on all students in the class and supports the most vulnerable learners too!

Do you teach a foreign language to your students? This packet contains two center activities that help teach colors in English, Spanish and French! It is differentiated so that students who need more help can use the colored word cards and those who are more advanced can use the black and white cards. The first center activity, the students match the color name to the color splat on the color mats. There are color mats available in English, Spanish and French with word cards available with each color. Use Velcro on the word cards and the blank spaces to allow the word cards to stay in place. The second center activity is a matching/memory game where students pair the colored splat card with the correct color word. This center is also available in English, Spanish and French. French Sound Mats – Les voyelles

These activity mats were designed with the K-3 teacher in mind. As you introduce new sounds to your Kindergarten/Grade One students, you can use the image pages for students to show sound recognition and phonemic awareness before they are able to identify letters/graphemes. As students grow in confidence, you can add the element of identifying CV sounds or VC sounds containing the target sound. Each mat has 6 cards that will contain the target sound. Students choose the card they think is the correct one, and attach the card to the mat with Velcro dots. The third and final level is identifying the target sound inside a word. Students will need to decode sounds to correctly determine the 6 matching cards that go on the mat. This resource will grow with your students as their abilities grow.

How to prepare this resource:

Make a copy of each page and laminate the page

Cut out the activity mat (the part on the left side of the page) and the activity cards (12 cards per mat)

Insert all the materials into a plastic bag, zipper pouch, or activity basket and you have a brand new independent work station for your Science of Reading lesson!

French Jour du Souvenir Activity Pack:

Fun and engaging activity sheets to reinforce and explore French Phonics SOUNDS in the Kindergarten to Grade 3 French Immersion classroom. Prep for this activity DOES INCLUDE SOME TIME ON YOUR PART! Make a copy of each page, insert into clear pocket, dry erase pocket, or use as individual worksheets and watch as the giggles get started. My students LOVE these activities. I cannot make them fast enough.

Detailed instructions for each activity are set out at the top of each activity and could not be easier.

There is a little cutting and laminating involved with some activities but many use clear folders to make your job easier!

French Sound Mats – E-accents

These activity mats were designed with the K-3 teacher in mind. As you introduce new sounds to your Kindergarten/Grade One students, you can use the image pages for students to show sound recognition and phonemic awareness before they are able to identify letters/graphemes. As students grow in confidence, you can add the element of identifying CV sounds or VC sounds containing the target sound. Each mat has 6 cards that will contain the target sound. Students choose the card they think is the correct one, and attach the card to the mat with Velcro dots. The third and final level is identifying the target sound inside a word. Students will need to decode sounds to correctly determine the 6 matching cards that go on the mat. This resource will grow with your students as their abilities grow.

How to prepare this resource:

Make a copy of each page and laminate the page

Cut out the activity mat (the part on the left side of the page) and the activity cards (12 cards per mat)

Insert all the materials into a plastic bag, zipper pouch, or activity basket and you have a brand new independent work station for your Science of Reading lesson!

French Pink Shirt Day FREEBIE

This quick and easy resource is for use near the end of the month of February to recognize Pink Shirt Day. The story behind this day is one that has a positive influence on students as they understand that it is not OK to bully EVER.

I hope you are able to use this resource in your class by quickly making copies and allowing students to use their creativity and unique perspectives to colour and decorate how they see fit.

Personally, I made copies onto pink printer paper in poster size 200% to make two big posters with the title 'Jour du chandail rose' and students have placed their Tshirts around the poster. Older students will also make theirs with a writing piece to explain their views on Pink Shirt Day in French.

French Decodable Sentence Strips that align with the Science of in the K-2 French classroom. Students work on their phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, decoding and encoding skills and as they master the target sound. Easy NO PREP activities that you will use all year long!

Make a few copies of each card and insert into clear pockets to create a quick and easy reading centre; arrange a table with four copies to create a quiet reading group; use one-on-one with your students to assess reading levels, to gain insights to their decoding skills, encoding skills, and to inform your upcoming lesson plans. Students use whiteboard markers to sound out each sound in the word, each syllable, or each word in the sentence. What a great way to build confidence! French Cahier de Souvenirs - Student Memory Autograph Booklets are designed with you in mind. Quick and easy, NO PREP activity that can have students gleefully filling in their favourite memories from the school year. Engaging and fun for students, a great activity to tie up the year for tired teachers. This booklet will make a terrific keepsake for your students for years to come. A fun cumulative activity for students to see just how much they have learned all year long!

How to use this resource:

I make booklets by copying the pages by multiples of 2 on my printer. This is very easy to do.

1. Click print

2. Select the printer and number of copies, then search down midway and click the MULTIPLE bar

3. Select 2 so you get 2 pages per printed copy

4. You can choose to bring double sided or single sided but I prefer single sided for the little ones (you can always take out the page if they make a mistake…harder to do if they also filled out the entire other side…fewer tears for me, the better!)

5. Staple into booklets. I stapled along the binder spirals so they looked more authentic

1. You can print one image per page and make the books bigger

I used this resource with my Grade 1 and 2 students at the end of the year to celebrate our accomplishments and to create a book of our favourite memories. Students loved brainstorming ideas for the various pages. It's amazing what they remember and appreciate from the past ten months of school.

These NO PREP, easy to read decoding cards are ideal for the K-2 classroom in French immersion, Core French, or Modern Language setting. Aligns perfectly with the Science of Reading and can supplement any reading program.

These cards are great for making a quick learning centre, a great way to check reading fluency on the fly, or to do a deep dive with those that need the one-on-one attention.

What to do:

I make 4 copies of a few cards for centre activities, a few sets for a clear folder binder for ‘shoulder to shoulder, knee to knee partner reading, and a set of cards for a quick quiet reading session if we are getting too silly in class.
