Hands On Activity:
Students will separate beans into separate populations and then respond to questions concerning populations and communities. This hands on activity allows meaningful understanding on how populations and communities work together within an ecosystem.

Meteors Comets and Asteroids Nonfiction Text and Activities

With this earth science lesson, students will learn what meteors, comets, and asteroids and what the differences are. Included in the lesson is an article to read about meteors, suggestions for video, and a sheet to fill in as students are learning. This would make for a great sub-plan.

How Much Water? Student Water Use Log

This water log chart activity to designed to help students think about the question "how much water do I use?" and discover their weekly water use.
Students record how many times they participate in different water using activities. They then multiply this number by the average amount of water used to understand their weekly water consumption. These average use values are given to the student and already included in the chart.

Flow of Energy Adapted Notes and Review

In this product, students will learn how animals obtain energy. They will review vocabulary words and their meanings - ecosystem and organism. Students will learn about the importance of food chains and what each link entails - first link - sun, second link - producers, consumers and how they can be carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores, and what each of those consumers means, students will learn about where they get energy from, students will also label the 1st link, 2nd link, producers, and kinds of consumers on food chains. Students will then look at 4 picture cards. They will look at each card and write how each organism gets its energy. At the end of the product, students will fill out the exit slip that reviews the 1st link, consumers, and producers.

Crumpled Paper Watershed Lab - Water Supply Activity - Middle School Science

Are you looking for a hands-on, inquiry-based lab for your middle school students that covers watersheds and human impact on water supply? Then check this out! In this lab, students will crumple a piece of paper, use markers to draw various landmarks and landforms on the paper, and then spray water over the paper to simulate rain flowing through a watershed. Students will be able to observe how water travels from areas of higher elevation to lower elevation due to gravity. Additionally, students will learn how humans impact the environment by leaving pollution on Earth's surface, which gets transported into the water supply. This lab also includes detailed step by step instructions and post-lab questions.
