Science of Reading Assessment Tool Tracking Sheet

I created a French SOR Assessment tool to cover all the sounds for students K to 3 in the French Immersion setting (Grade 4-6 Core French) for easy assessment and evaluation. Once I got started on my own testing, I realized I could use a quick look tracking sheet.

I learned how to make the boxes editable and hope it works out for you. (I did ask a few colleagues to try it out first). I am offering it FREE for now.

How to use this product:

Fun and engaging way to teach FOREST vocabulary. Contains 29 I Have, Who Has...? cards and a memory game. It teaches animals and plants of European forests - 28 words in total. Low prep, just print out and cut up.

How to use:

1. I Have, Who Has? Card Game

Print out, cut up. It can be played in small or large groups. Hand out all of

the cards to pupils, each has roughly the same number of cards. The student

with the 1st card starts by asking Who has...? The pupil with the matching

card replies and asks Who has...? The game finishes when pupils get to the

last card.

During the activity teacher monitors the correct use of articles.

2. Memory Game

Print out and cut up. It can be played in small groups. For bigger classes

print out several times and play in a number of groups. Students look for pairs.

TIP: Print a copy for each student and use as a picture dictionary. Students

cut out the pictures, glue them into their notebooks and add

descriptions.

French Dots and Boxes Game - ATTENDRE - PRESENT TENSE - No prep printable

An easy and fun no-prep game that will elicit a lot of exposure and pronunciation for the target vocabulary and grammar when teaching present tense ATTENDRE with and without negation. This is a one-page dots & boxes game including directions. This game could be laminated and used repeatedly with dry-erase markers or played on an iPad with annotation/whiteboard tools.

Objective: Complete more boxes than your component. Each player draws lines using a different color. On your turn, make a horizontal or vertical line from one dot to another. Say the verbs on either side of the line you drew. If you complete a box on your turn, draw an X in the box using your color. Once all of the boxes have been completed, count to see who got the most. Directions

Materials Needed:

• One of the 10 worksheets or the editable template where you add your own words
• A regular six-sided die
• Colors
• Optional: A device with a QR code scanner (phone, tablet, etc.)

Rolling the Die:

• Students roll a six-sided die to determine which color word they read in Spanish.
• Students can also scan the QR code on the worksheet using a device with a QR code scanner to access a virtual dice roller.

Reading the Word:

• Students match the number rolled with the corresponding color word on their worksheet.
• Students read aloud the color in Spanish to practice pronunciation.

Marking Progress:

• Once students read a word, they should shade in color the box using the color that matches the Spanish word read.
• If students roll a number they have already completed, they should roll again until they land on a new word.
• Students continue rolling and reading until they have completed all the words on their worksheet.

French Decodable texts that align with the Science of Reading and current available reading education concepts. The easy to use texts can be utilised in the classroom with little to no preparation. Make a few copies of each text and insert into clear pockets to create a quick and easy reading centre; arrange a table with four copies to create a quiet reading group; use one-on-one with your students to assess reading levels, to gain insights to their decoding skills, and to inform your upcoming lesson plans. Whatever way you choose to use this resource, I am so grateful that you have given this item a try!

Who can use this resource:

Teachers who are just getting accustomed to using strategies from the Science of Reading can use these simple texts to open up independent practice, small group evaluation, or up on a digital screen for whole group instruction and reading practice.

Make a set and send them home with students to build fluency in reading and confidence in reading strategies.

Texts are designed to build a number of common French sounds and get more challenging as they go on.

Correction sheet is handy for use with a substitute as they can confidently assess students and command the lesson even when they are not assured of their French skills.

What grade level:

I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills. Flip Card decks are so handy for the classroom. I use them in small group work to assess and teach specific sounds, combinations of CV sounds, and to decode words together. The large format cards are great for my Grade 1 students as we can do a lot of whole class instruction and the students have so much fun coming up to the front of the class to come up with the 'really hard' CV combinations for their peers to read out loud.

Use the smaller sets for learning centres, individual work, and pair work as your students get familiar with their phonological awareness and phonemic awareness. My students happen to love 'testing' each other by flipping the cards, saying the sound, and then waiting as their 'students' write what they think is the correct letter on their whiteboards!

We love them so much as we can sneak in a little decoding and Science of Reading whenever we get a minute or two of time to fill.

Any French educator who is wanting to practice, assess, and deepen their students understanding of sound work in French. This item is suitable for French Immersion, Core French, and French instruction at any level. Students in the Core French environment can benefit from using these sets independently for writing assignments and group activities. My favourite game to practice German verb conjugations (schwache, starke, trennbare, reflexive, Misch-, Modalverben, Verben auf -eln und -ern**.** It can be used in any tense. No prep, just PRINT AND GO.

This is my go-to game when I need to drill some grammar into my students. It's by far the most efficient grammar game. I love it because it's so easy to use. And my students love it because it doesn't feel like learning when, in fact, they do a TON of learning. We can easily spend the whole lesson playing battleship and they want to keep on playing even after the bell rings.

It's also a great activity for substitute lessons or when I'm in a time press and don't have much time to prepare for a lesson.

How to play:

• It can be played in pairs or in small teams
• Hide your ships in the left field. They mustn't touch.
• Form sentences in order to "hit" the enemy ships in the right field.

French Dots and Boxes Game - LA VILLE - No prep printable

An easy and fun no-prep game that will elicit a lot of exposure and pronunciation for the target vocabulary! This is a one-page dots & boxes game including directions. 120 different vocabulary words related to la ville are included. This game could be laminated and used repeatedly with dry-erase markers or played on an iPad with annotation/whiteboard tools.

Objective: Complete more boxes than your component. Each player draws lines using a different color. On your turn, make a horizontal or vertical line from one dot to another. Say the words on either side of the line you drew. If you complete a box on your turn, draw an X in the box using your color. Once all of the boxes have been completed, count to see who got the most.
