Dots and Boxes Game - Counting to 10 - French or ANY language - No prep printable

An easy and fun no-prep game that will elicit a lot of exposure and pronunciation for the counting to 10 in FRENCH or ANY LANGUAGE! This is a one-page dots & boxes game including directions. This game could be laminated and used repeatedly with dry-erase markers or played on an iPad with annotation/whiteboard tools. This game is included in my Ça y est, Je parle français! French 1 & 2 curriculum.

Objective: Complete more boxes than your component. Each player draws lines using a different color. On your turn, make a horizontal or vertical line from one dot to another. Say the letters on either side of the line you drew. If you complete a box on your turn, draw an X in the box using your color. Once all of the boxes have been completed, count to see who got the most.

French Decodable Sentence Strips are interactive French activity cards to promote decoding and encoding skills aligned with the Science of Reading (la conscience phonologique) in the French Immersion K-2 classroom. This resource is designed to optimize learning, develop independent learning strategies, and boost student confidence in the classroom. Cultivate a love of learning French with these fun and exciting sentence strips!

How to use this resource:

Make a few copies of each card and insert into clear pockets to create a quick and easy reading centre; arrange a table with four copies to create a quiet reading group; use one-on-one with your students to assess reading levels, to gain insights to their decoding skills, encoding skills, and to inform your upcoming lesson plans. Students use whiteboard markers to sound out each sound in the word, each syllable, or each word in the sentence. What a great way to build confidence! 42 playing cards to print on heavy paper or card stock

This card game is an excellent way to practice and memorize verb conjugations and the savoir + infinitive construction, and it will have your students speaking to each other in French the whole time! They will make affirmative and negative statements and will use EST-CE QUE to form simple questions.

One player distributes five cards to each player (2 to 4 per group). The rest of the cards are placed in the "pioche". One player begins the game by asking another player to give him a card. He or she might say, "Est-ce que tu as JE SAIS CHANTER?"

The goal is to come up with complete families. The different verbs represent the families. There are 6 cards to a family (JE - TU - IL - NOUS- VOUS - ILS). Students will find it helpful to group together the cards that have the same picture at the top (flower, flip-flops, etc.) If the player doesn't have it, he says "pioche". If he draws the card that he asked for, he can continue to play and ask someone for another card. Each time a player comes up with all six members of a family, he can make a stack. At the end of the game, the player with the most sets of families wins!

Looking for a fun, engaging, no prep way for your students to practice conjugating 35 common regular French ER verbs in the passé composé? They're really going to enjoy making verb chains! This is a great literacy center or independent work activity. They'll love hanging them up around the classroom! See the preview for more details, and scroll down to read the list of verbs that are included.

• Each verb page has ten strips to cut out.
• The first strip is for the student's name.
• The next nine strips are for conjugating the indicated verb with JE - TU - IL - ELLE - ON - NOUS - VOUS - ILS - ELLES.

STEP 1 - Students begin by filling in the blanks to add the correct passé composé helping verbs and past participle endings. The number of letters needed is indicated by the number of blanks provided to help students while learning or reviewing conjugations.

This literacy center or independent work activity for primary core French or primary French immersion is a hands-on way for your students to practice conjugating 5 regular French verbs in the present tense. Practice classroom vocabulary with these fun books!!!

They have five different challenge levels all in Spanish. You can use these books with the whole class, small groups or at a center. They can also be sent home as homework or review.

Pictures are black and white line so students can color each page.

Each book is 10 pages long.

Easy to assemble: print pages on one side, cut and staple. So easy that students can cut them and staple the pages with a little bit of help ;)

Flip Card decks are so handy for the classroom. I use them in small group work to assess and teach specific sounds, combinations of CV sounds, and to decode words together. The large format cards are great for my Grade 1 students as we can do a lot of whole class instruction and the students have so much fun coming up to the front of the class to come up with the 'really hard' CV combinations for their peers to read out loud.

Use the smaller sets for learning centres, individual work, and pair work as your students get familiar with their phonological awareness and phonemic awareness. My students happen to love 'testing' each other by flipping the cards, saying the sound, and then waiting as their 'students' write what they think is the correct letter on their whiteboards!

We love them so much as we can sneak in a little decoding and Science of Reading whenever we get a minute or two of time to fill.

Who can use this resource:

Any French educator who is wanting to practice, assess, and deepen their students understanding of sound work in French. This item is suitable for French Immersion, Core French, and French instruction at any level. Students in the Core French environment can benefit from using these sets independently for writing assignments and group activities. Immersion teachers will find these flip cards useful for any students from Grades 1 to 4 who need an extra boost to building a stronger phonological awareness and phonemic awareness. This coincides beautifully with the 'Heggerty type' approach to French Instruction being introduced in many provinces in Canada.

J'ai... Qui a...? (I have... Who has...?)

This great French phonics game is a fantastic way to get your students talking. Students of every grade absolutely love this easy to use card game. The easy prep cards can be made in colour or black and white and can be used with words or without, depending on the level of French phonological awareness that they have acquired.

If they are only setting out in their French journey, try cards with no words and watch them get talking. With students that have been learning with the Science of Reading, decoding and blending are the next steps.

Once students have all the simple sounds (sons simples) in French, we start to introduce complex sounds (sons complexes). I usually teach OU first and then AN. This allows students to now be able to decode hundreds of words.

Activity Cards include:

-memory practice

-decoding practice

-blending sounds

-lowercase letter recognition

-identifying phonemes

-decoding simple and complex sounds

-word recognition

-identifying sound in an image

-matching sounds and words

-student interaction

-oral fluency and efficiency

-builds confidence in speaking French in class

Science of Reading:

These cards are aligned with sounds being taught in any Science of Reading aligned curriculum. They are set up for student success based on the research for increasing reading fluency and building student confidence in the classroom!

Once you have established the strategies for identifying sounds, initial sounds, and blending sounds, segmenting sounds, students will be able to use these self-driven phonics game cards on their own. What a great way to build learning autonomy!

I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills. Core French teachers will be sure to add the resource to their repertoire for Grades 4 to 6 as they learn to read and write at the Junior level.

French RE Verbs Vendre Rendre Perdre - Present Tense Conjugation Worksheets

This literacy center or independent work activity for primary core French or primary French immersion is a hands-on way for your students to practice conjugating the regular RE French verbs vendre - perdre - rendre in the present tense. Each worksheet has one verb to conjugate. Spaces are provided for each letter of the conjugations to encourage correct spelling. Get the bundle of conjugation worksheets and save 50%.
