What is it?

Micro texts are made with the intention of getting to the skill or the practice students need FASTER. Each text is less than 400 words. All of the 16 questions is aligned to finding the "bullseye" and helping students think critically about the answer choices and how they can apply critical thinking to get the right answer every time. It also encourages students to read each question and not choose an answer that "feels right".

Beyond the primary grades teachers often seem to forget about checking students reading fluency. This is a simple to use form for students to provide themselves a self-feedback on their read aloud fluency. Teachers can then use the same form to provide their own feedback on the students reading fluency. File states to use Audacity (a free download online) but other recording programs/devices may be used - this is just a personal choice/what is available on our school computers. This is an activity to do while your students watch Disney's Inside out. Students will be identifying the main idea and theme, providing 2 supporting details for both of those. Then, once they have finished the movie, they will write a summary of the movie.

I've been asked by many to create a document that encompasses lots of comprehension texts and questions, specifically related to science. Interdisciplinary approaches are becoming more popular, but it's not always easy to find texts that meet the needs of our curriculum!

This 73-page document includes 22 different texts directly linked to grade 6 science units; including biodiversity and protecting our planet, space and the solar system, air and flight, as well as grade 5 concepts including forces and structures and matter.

All except two texts come with comprehension questions.

These will allow you to explore texts in your LA reading blocks, and will allow your students to improve their comprehension. These texts are informational, or hybrid texts that will give your students rich, meaningful readings. They're printer-friendly, with no foolish fonts or babyish images.
