Beyond the primary grades teachers often seem to forget about checking students reading fluency. This is a simple to use form for students to provide themselves a self-feedback on their read aloud fluency. Teachers can then use the same form to provide their own feedback on the students reading fluency. File states to use Audacity (a free download online) but other recording programs/devices may be used - this is just a personal choice/what is available on our school computers. Directions

Rolling the Die:

• Students roll a six-sided die to determine which sight word or sentence they will read.
• Students can also scan the QR code on the worksheet using a device with a QR code scanner to access a virtual dice roller.

Reading the Sight Word:

• Students match the number rolled with the corresponding sight word or sentenceon their worksheet.
• Students read the sight word or sentence out loud.
• Students should focus on pronouncing each word correctly and quickly.

Marking Progress:

• Once students read a sight word or sentence, they should highlight or color the box. They could also cover it with a counter or place marker etc.
• If students roll a number they have already completed, they should roll again until they land on a new sight word or sentence.
• Students continue rolling and reading until they have completed all the sight words on their worksheets.

I've been asked by many to create a document that encompasses lots of comprehension texts and questions, specifically related to science. Interdisciplinary approaches are becoming more popular, but it's not always easy to find texts that meet the needs of our curriculum!

This 73-page document includes 22 different texts directly linked to grade 6 science units; including biodiversity and protecting our planet, space and the solar system, air and flight, as well as grade 5 concepts including forces and structures and matter.

All except two texts come with comprehension questions.

These will allow you to explore texts in your LA reading blocks, and will allow your students to improve their comprehension. These texts are informational, or hybrid texts that will give your students rich, meaningful readings. They're printer-friendly, with no foolish fonts or babyish images.
