A Valentine's Day Escape Room activity. In Task 1 students will read an informational text about the celebration of Valentine's Day and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards about important holidays or festivals celebrated in the United States and around the world. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.

Through this activity, not only will they have fun working together or individually to solve the puzzle, but they will also have the opportunity to practice reading absolute location —latitude and longitude — coordinate grid system. Each moment is a teaching moment, and this will allow reinforcement of their map reading skills. Looking for a no prep and engaging Valentine's Day activity that also helps your students practice operations fractions? Let your sixth graders practice while they solve the mystery in this fun and escape room activity.

Based on the premise that a heart has lost its friend in Paris, your students will explore five different locations full of activities, and hidden messages. After completing all four activities, they will enter the master lock.

If all responses are entered correctly, the heart will be found!

Since this escape room is online (interactive pages) there is very little prep; just duplicate the student answer sheet, provide the link, and off they go! There are no locks to configure or clues to hide—everything you need is online. No Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams logins are necessary.
