French 20 questions games - Small group or whole class no prep activities
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
French 20 questions games - Small group or whole class no prep activities
The game of 20 questions is a fun and effective way to practice forming French questions and in these 5 versions of the game, students will learn over 250 nouns that go beyond what they learn from a textbook chapter theme or every day classroom vocabulary.
Included:
5 versions with vocabulary written in French and English
5 versions with vocabulary written in French only
➯ This resource is included in my Ça y est, je parle français! French 1 curriculum bundle!
Have students work in small groups of 2-4 or project the version of the game that you want to use and do a whole class activity.
Each version includes 52 words. Many of the words will be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice forming questions, but also to build vocabulary. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the words. After they've played the games a few times looking at the French-English version they feel more prepared to move on to the French only version.
One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word.
EST-CE QUE…….
… tu es une personne?
… tu es un animal?
… tu es un minéral?
… tu es un endroit?
… tu es un aliment?
… tu es une plante?
… tu es un objet?
The student who has chosen the secret word can answer using the following responses: OUI - NON - PARFOIS - RAREMENT - GÉNÉRALEMENT - PEUT-ÊTRE - CELA DÉPEND - PROBABLEMENT
Alternative game play:
To change up the game and to make it more challenging as well as practicing other skills, have the student who chooses the secret word describe it to others in the group. Instead of asking questions about the secret word, other students listen to the description and guess it.

French School Lunch Menu Activities Bundle - 5 French and English Versions
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
French School Lunch Menu Activities Bundle - 5 French and English Versions
Here are five no prep printable activities to use along with my free French school lunch menu series. You get five versatile worksheets that you can use with any of the lunch menus I've provided. Since there are so many menus available, having five different worksheets to use will keep your menu activities from becoming boring. All of the menus are in French only, but each worksheet has a French only and an English only version so that you can use them with any level whether you teach core French or in French immersion.
I recommend printing the menu you want to use on one side of a sheet of paper and the set of questions you want to use on the other. Talk about a time saver and fun cultural addition to your food unit!
Versions 1 - 4 have ten questions each while version 5 has six questions. The questions on these worksheets will have your students learning a lot about cultural differences concerning menu items as well as the amount of time French students get for lunch, why there's no menu for Wednesday, etc.
Your students will find it interesting to see that French kids are offered une entrée, un plat principal, une garniture, un produit laitier, et un dessert every day.
It would be fun to look up images of some of these menu items to show students what they look like and if they eat anything similar at their schools or homes.
These activities and menus are all included in my French Food & Drink bundle.

French Speaking Game - Non, parce que...
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
French Speaking Game - Non, parce que...
What is this game? A guessing game to get your students speaking! This game is similar to (but more challenging than) the game of twenty questions. Be sure to check out the video preview!
➯ This resource is included in my French 2 curriculum: Ça y est, je parle français!
Number of players: Two people or a small group. It can be challenging, so I recommend this game for grades 6 and higher.
What is included: 50 playing cards
How to play: This game is very simple, but you really need to explain how it works for students to play it correctly and not turn it into a 20 questions type of game. One player thinks of an object and the other players try to guess what it is. Each card has an image of a person, place, or a thing. The person holding the card is the one who will do the most speaking. The other people in the group will simply ask questions like “C'est un / une _____?” All they can ask is if the image on the card is a particular noun. The person holding the card has to answer by saying, “Non, ce n'est pas un / une ____ parce que…..”
Examples:
Player 1 is holding a card and sees an image of a banana.
Player 2 says something like, “C'est une chaussure?”
Player 1 has to respond by starting out with saying something like “Non, parce que ce n'est pas quelque chose que l'on porte.”
Player 2 guesses another specific noun, and then another. He or she might say “C'est une chaise?”
Player 1 might say "Non, parce qu'on ne s'assied pas dessus.
Player 2 continues to guess, and might say "C'est une voiture?"
Player 1 might say "Non, parce qu'on ne la conduit pas."
Player 2 continues to guess, and might say "Ce sont des brocolis?"
Player 1 might say "Non, parce que c'est plus sucrée."
Player 2 might say "C'est une pomme?"
Now that Player 2 has guessed a fruit, he’s pretty close.
Player 1 can now say something like "Non, mais c'est un fruit."
Player 2 now just starts guessing different fruits until he or she gets it.
This can be a challenging game that requires a good amount of thought, and you really have to tell your students who are guessing that they can’t ask question about what’s on the card. They can ONLY ask if it’s a specific noun. The player holding the card can’t answer YES or NO. They really need to remember that their response has to begin with NO, BECAUSE…
This is a fun game that will really get your students speaking, and you’ll love hearing them as they play it!

Paired or Group Speaking Game - No, because...

Paired or Group Speaking Game - No, because...
What is this game? A guessing game to get your students speaking! This game is similar to (but more challenging than) the game of twenty questions. Be sure to check out the video preview!
The other people in the group will simply ask questions like “Is it a _____?” All they can ask is if the image on the card is a particular noun. The person holding the card has to answer by saying, “No, it's not a ____ because…..”
Examples:
Player 1 is holding a card and sees an image of a banana.
Player 2 says something like, “Is it a shoe?”
Player 1 has to respond by starting out with saying something like “No, because it's not something you wear.”
Player 2 guesses another specific noun, and then another. He or she might say “Is it a chair?”
Player 1 might say "No, because you don't sit on it.
Player 2 continues to guess, and might say "Is it a car?"
Player 1 might say "No, because you don't drive it."
Player 2 continues to guess, and might say "Is it broccoli?"
Player 1 might say "No, because it's sweeter."
Player 2 might say "Is it an apple?"
Now that Player 2 has guessed a fruit, he’s pretty close.
Player 1 can now say something like "No, but it is a fruit."

French Regular IR Verbs Listening Comprehension & Writing Storyboard Activity
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
If you're struggling to find an original and engaging activity for your beginner French students to practice and review regular IR verbs, you are going to love these listening comprehension and writing activities in the present tense. Peek at the preview for a closer look at these fun storyboard activities which also exist for ER verbs, RE verbs, and in a money saving bundle!
These activities can be used for listening comprehension and written production at the same time, instructions included.
If your students have access to colored pencils you may choose to use the recordings that indicate which color they should use to draw and write. The color they should use is clearly indicated in French at the beginning or appropriate time in the reading of the sentence.
A recording without the use of colors is also included.
Some students will say they can’t draw, but stick figures should be encouraged! None of the sentences represent a real drawing challenge.
Included in this French listening comprehension resource bundle:
No answer keys are provided for the drawings due to the nature of the activity. However, assessment is very simple for the teacher! All you have to do is glance over the drawings. Answer keys are provided for written responses should you opt to use this as a dictation exercise.
What teachers like you are saying about my "storyboard" activities:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Students enjoyed this activity! It definitely helped them understand vocabulary we've been working on." - French and English Teacher in the US
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "This combines two things that I have a tough time getting right: listening and writing. Most listening things are much too difficult for my F1 students. This is perfect." - Mikal T.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Love this! Great for a variety of grade and ability levels." - Lisa M.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Nice listening activity, and could be used as a formative assessment." - Tina S.
