Slope (Gradient) is a very practical real-life experience for all of us - we climb stairs daily and walk up and down very steep and less steep inclines. In this practical, outside activity, students encounter slope first hand and then make sense of the mathematics behind it. The task concisely reviews the steps contained in the Exponents and Roots Tutorial. It should be used in conjunction with the Exponents and Roots Tutorial. The aim of both the Tutorial and the task is to assist students to independently become 100% comfortable with their calculator. The aim of the task is DIY for students.

The task can be used as teacher assessment, peer assessment or self assessment at the end of a fractions and decimals unit of work.
