7th Grade Social Studies & History Handouts

This activity is an engaging and accessible way for your students to practice and strengthen their knowledge of American geography as well as states and capital cities!

Students will be tasked with identifying a mystery state that can be only be solved through the process of elimination. They will be prompted to use a political map of America to solve various puzzles and eliminate 49 states until they have only one left, thus solving the mystery.

This is a great way to review states and capital cities and basic map skills. The print version requires that students have access to a physical map but there is a link to a map in the digital version.

The assignment is a reading over the The 3 Branches of United States Government - Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. Students will read paragraphs and then answer the Fill in the Blank, Multiple Choice, and Matching questions that follow.

Political cartoons are a great way to allow students to express their viewpoints and concerns through a creative alternative outlet. This includes a handout to provide students on "How To Create a Political Cartoon," along with samples and suggested online sites that allow students to create their political cartoons online.

These graphic organizers require students to analyze three images related to the Great Depression and Dust Bowl and draw evidence-based conclusions. The differentiated version graphic organizer includes scaffolding questions to help lower level students analyze the images and write about them. The graphic organizers also require students to cite evidence from the images to support their analysis/conclusions. The graphic organizers are visually appealing and eye catching!

These graphic organizers are excellent for Do Now, unit launch, groupwork, homework, independent work, and/or research activities. They can also be used to set a purpose for listening/watching video clips used to supplement lessons. It's a great tool to help build students' background/prior knowledge for upcoming units/topics related to the Great Depression and/or Dust Bowl.

The project is divided into fourteen sections, including the front pages. Sections include Language/Population, Habitat/Geography, Family Structure, Government, and several others. Each section has a list of criteria and questions that must be answered to complete the section.

I would expect a single student to take about ten weeks, with a weekly goal (perhaps a little faster) of completing one section.

There is a score for each section and teacher info on ways to make it work.

The project contains a cover sheet, a teacher's page, two student pages and a sheet to help students select an appropriate civilization.

There is also a list of civilizations that have an abundance of information available on line.

This is a 40-page set of comprehension questions to accompany the Steck-Vaughn textbook "History of Our World: Volume 2 - The Modern World".

For each chapter, there is one page of multiple choice questions and one page of short answer questions.

Also, there is an answer key included at the end of the file.
