Tener Idioms Powerpoint with Pictures | Google Slides and PowerPoint
By Senorita Creativa
Do you struggle to present new vocabulary in a comprehensible way while staying completely in the target language? Then this fun PowerPoint™️ presentation is a great way to introduce or review tener idioms with your elementary or secondary class. There are 23 terms represented on individual slides (plus a title page and a terms of use page). Links to the Google Slides™️ version of the presentation are also included in this zipped file.
The terms represented include:
Each slide is animated so that the picture appears first, followed by the Spanish term. The presentation is almost completely free of English, but still very comprehensible, thanks to the great clip art. My students really enjoy when we use this as a review with whiteboards. Make sure to check out the preview for a complete list of terms. Please note that the terms in the presentation are NOT editable, although slides may be deleted or rearranged.
**Please note that the pictures in the animated slideshows are covered by white boxes that are animated to disappear when in presentation mode. When viewing the presentation in any mode other than “presentation mode”, it looks like there aren’t any pictures.**

Day of the Dead Scavenger Hunt Reading Game English Version Gallery Walk
By Specialty Spanish
Want your Spanish students to learn about Day of the Dead , but reading comprehension is getting boring in your Spanish class? Turn it into a game! This mystery-solving reading about Día de Muertos goes from dull to exciting as students work together and move around the room to solve a mystery! This is a simple “print and go” with no work for the teacher!
Students investigate with Maria, a young person from Mexico, while she tries to understand more about a former member of her town. He visits the townspeople all year, not just during Día de Muertos. Why can’t he rest in peace? While they read the parts, they are also looking for “code words”. Students record the code words on a special answer sheet that will eventually lead them to solving the mystery of how/why he died. It’s so much fun!
After, you can decide which of the 4 follow-up activities you want to do with your students. There are 4; a True or False Activity to check for basic comprehension, a graphic organizer for students to learn more about the specific items related to Day of the Dead, a “tell me in your own words” activity, and a writing follow up where students use their reading comprehension and critical thinking to invent an explanation for who this lost soul was and why he died the way he did. Answer key to the True/False is also included. Best of all? If there’s something you’d like to change for your students, you are free to edit!
The reading cards are written in English for your Novice classes. The questions are written in English and answers will be in English as well. The instructions and mission are written in English. Students get the benefit of learning about a cultural event while using teamwork!
**If your students are ready for reading in Spanish, check out the Spanish version of this Scavenger Hunt! And if you have classes at both levels, buy them in a bundle to save money!

Spanish Class Back To School Parent Engagement Docs
By Specialty Spanish
It's Back To School Time! How can you get parents, guardians and families involved in your Spanish class? Use these templates to communicate with parents at the beginning of the year! These digital or printable Google Docs are just waiting for your personal touch and details! Start the new year with high parent engagement!
The first doc is a letter for families which introduces their child’s new Spanish teacher (you!) and asks parents to tell you about their child. **Parents love to tell you about their kids and being asked let’s them know right away that you care!
The second doc is a similar letter, but tailored for the parents/guardians of AP Spanish students.
The 3rd doc is a request for guest speakers. Why not let our families know how much their life experience is valued? Send this letter to find out if there are any family members, friends or colleagues that use Spanish in their lives! **This document is part of my Spanish Back to School Survival Pack for Middle and High School bundle!!**
The 4th doc is a hand-out to give parents, perhaps at Open House Night? It lists several ways in which parents can help their child succeed in Spanish class, even if they don’t know Spanish. It’s a great way to empower parents and to give them actionable strategies to be involved with their child’s learning on a regular basis.
The last doc is a study guide template. I send this via email about a week before an important assessment. It’s a great way to keep families in the loop as we encourage them to be involved in their child’s Spanish education!
All of these documents are almost ready to send out! You can edit and personalize all of them, and they can be printed out or emailed home. Start your school year with strong partnerships and high parent involvement!
