Le jeu des sept familles - This classic card game is fun for students of all ages! Looking for easy prep literacy activities for independent work during differentiated reading instruction? This version of the game is for practicing ÊTRE PRESENT TENSE CONJUGATIONS and EMOTIONS.

Each of the 7 "families of cards" begins with one of the following, and conjugations in the present tense are used in the JE - TU - IL - NOUS - VOUS - ILS forms.

• Je suis + emotion
• Je ne suis pas + emotion
• Est-ce que je suis + emotion

42 playing cards to print on heavy paper or card stock

This card game is an excellent way to practice and memorize verb conjugations. It will have your students speaking to each other in French the whole time! They will make affirmative and negative statements and will use EST-CE QUE to form simple questions.

One player distributes five cards to each player (2 to 4 per group). The rest of the cards are placed in the "pioche". One player begins the game by asking another player to give him a card. He or she might say, "Est-ce que tu es triste?"

The goal is to come up with complete families. The different verbs represent the families. There are 6 cards to a family (JE - TU - IL - NOUS- VOUS - ILS). Students will find it helpful to group together the cards that have the same picture at the top (flower, flip-flops, etc.) If the player doesn't have it, he says "pioche". If he draws the card that he asked for, he can continue to play and ask someone for another card. Each time a player comes up with all six members of a family, he can make a stack. At the end of the game, the player with the most sets of families wins!

How to play:

French Dots and Boxes Game - ALLER - PRESENT TENSE - No prep printable

An easy and fun no-prep game that will elicit a lot of exposure and pronunciation for the target vocabulary and grammar when teaching present tense ALLER with and without negation. This is a one-page dots & boxes game including directions. This game could be laminated and used repeatedly with dry-erase markers or played on an iPad with annotation/whiteboard tools.

Objective: Complete more boxes than your component. Each player draws lines using a different color. On your turn, make a horizontal or vertical line from one dot to another. Say the verbs on either side of the line you drew. If you complete a box on your turn, draw an X in the box using your color. Once all of the boxes have been completed, count to see who got the most. This is a fun review game to play with your Spanish students. I designed this game using regular –er and -ir verbs, as well as ir, ser, hacer, querer, decir, estar, and stem-changing -ir verbs, all in the preterite. This game can be played in centers, or you can print enough for the whole class to play in groups. The game includes:

• 48 cards
• two options for the game board
• an answer key.

Directions:

1. Determine who will play first.
2. The first player draws a card and must conjugate the verb in parentheses. If the conjugation is correct, the player spins and moves the indicated number of spaces. If it is incorrect, the player does not move.
3. The next player draws a card, and play continues.
4. If the player lands on “pierda su turno”, they lose their next turn.
5. If the player lands on “turno extra”, they get an extra turn.
6. Play continues until the first player reaches “el fin”.

Noël - Christmas - French 20 questions game - No prep speaking activity

The game of 20 questions is a fun and effective way to practice forming French questions and in this version of the game, students will learn over 50 nouns and verbs that follow a Noël - Christmas theme. Check out all of my Christmas resources for the French classroom here.

This game work for any level as it is written in French and English. Want a real challenge for your upper levels or immersion students? Use the French only version!

Included:

1 version with vocabulary written in French and English

1 version with vocabulary written in French only

Have students work in small groups of 2-4 or project the game and use it as a whole class activity.

This game includes 52 words. Many of the words will be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice forming questions, but also to build vocabulary. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the words. After they've played the games a few times looking at the French-English version they feel more prepared to move on to the French only version.

One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word.

EST-CE QUE…….

… c'est une personne?

… c'est un animal?

… c'est un minéral?

… c'est un endroit?

… c'est un aliment?

… c'est une plante?

… c'est un objet?

The student who has chosen the secret word can answer using the following responses: OUI - NON - PARFOIS - RAREMENT - GÉNÉRALEMENT - PEUT-ÊTRE - CELA DÉPEND - PROBABLEMENT

Alternative game play:

To change up the game and to make it more challenging as well as practicing other skills, have the student who chooses the secret word describe it to others in the group. Instead of asking questions about the secret word, other students listen to the description and guess it.
