Être - Present Tense French Tic Tac Toe Games - No Prep Printable

Tic Tac Toe is a fun game that your students already know how to play, and it is a simple way to get them conjugating, writing, and speaking the French verb être in the present tense.

This resource includes two worksheets with 6 tic-tac-toe grids per page. One worksheet is for speaking answers, and the other one is for writing them. Photocopy on the front and back for a no-prep set of 12 grids for differentiated learning.

Students play in pairs, conjugating être so that it agrees with the subject pronoun in each box, saying answers aloud or writing them to claim squares on tic tac toe grids. Three correctly conjugated verbs in a row wins the game. Students need to use different colored pens or markers when writing their answers.

2 French Children's Story Videos (Petit Poulet and L'Oiseau et la baleine) from The French Experiment are linked.

For your beginner Core French class, I recommend having students watch one of the videos in French first with no subtitles. Have them try to answer as many questions as possible from the accompanying worksheet. You might want to play the video at .75x speed if you teach elementary students.

Next, play the video once more, this time with subtitles. Students will be able to fill in the blanks they missed the first time around.

The last question for each of the stories allow students to think critically about the lesson each story teaches.

The worksheets are in English. The videos are in French.

I found this allows students to think about what they are watching more carefully, learning more French words along the way.

An answer key is not included, but the questions are very simple and you will be able to answer them easily after watching the video. I wrote the answers while watching the videos along with the students.

This ressource contains 52 cards and has enough material for 13 rounds if you play it like a classic game of Memory. Each round has:

• a percentage card,
• a fraction card,
• a decimal card and
• an image card.

There are so many ways your students can benefit from playing with these cards! Here are some ways I've used them in my own classroom.

• Print and cut all cards and make as many copies as you'll need for the number of groups/teams you'll be creating. Have your students work in groups of 3-6 playing a classic game of "Memory" where they'll need to find the pairs.
• Using just one form (drawing, percentage, or decimal number), pass them out to your students and have them get in line from least to greatest, or from greatest to least without talking!
• Using only two forms, pass out one card to each student. You'll only want to do this activity if you have an even number of students. Have your students try to find their "matching partner."
• Have your students play a game of "Headbanz" by holding their card up to their forehead without seeing it. They'll have to ask their partner questions to narrow down what's on their head! They might ask questions like "Am I a percentage? Am I a decimal number? Am I a fraction? Am I bigger than a half? Am I smaller than a half?" etc.
• I've also passed out 2 random cards to each student and have had them create a written math problem using what they got on their card, and then passing it to a friend to solve.
• You can also place one form for each time around your classroom on the walls and distribute the rest to your students. Have them run around the class finding their corresponding equivalent.

Whichever way you choose to use these cards, I keep them on hand for months while we work through decimals, fractions, percentages and place value. They're an "on-the-fly" activity for me - and I often leave it for substitute teachers as well.

Your French students need to practice conjugating the verbs ouvrir, souffrir, offrir, and couvrir, you need an easy and no-prep activity that will keep them engaged and having fun while learning. Look no further! Students already know how to play "rock, paper, scissors" in English, so why not have some fun with "pierre, feuille, ciseaux" while mastering verb conjugations in your French classroom?

Students play in pairs. They play quick games of "pierre, feuille, ciseaux" to see who will be able to move forward a certain number of spaces on the game board.

The following sentences are written in French on the game board, and it’s fun way to get them speaking more French during the game if they say them when they win:

⭐ La pierre écrase les ciseaux.

⭐ La feuille enveloppe la pierre.

⭐ Les ciseaux découpent la feuille.

When a student lands on a space, he conjugates and translates the verb written on it using the subject pronoun provided. Winning is easy, as long as you're the first one to reach la fin!

Teaching French chez le médecin - doctor vocabulary?  Looking for an engaging way to get your French students to build their communication skills and vocabulary? The catch is that they cannot mention anything that is included in a list of taboo words.

Object of the game:

One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can't use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the underlined word at the top of the card.

Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Teaching French Thanksgiving vocabulary?  Looking for an engaging way to get your French students to build their communication skills and vocabulary? Taboo is a fun French speaking and listening game where one student has to guess a word based on clues given in French by other students. The catch is that they cannot mention anything that is included in a list of taboo words.

All of the words on each card are written in French and English. This is very useful as many of the words will be new to students whether they are beginners or very advanced. You can easily modify this game to play it with all levels!  You are going to love hearing your students speaking in French to each other about Thanksgiving.

French Taboo Games Growing Bundle

Classic French Taboo Games Bundle - 3 Versions

Object of the game:

One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can't use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the underlined word at the top of the card.

Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Beginner students should be allowed to use the French TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues.
