We all know how students get excited on holidays: Christmas, Valentine's, Halloween, and Thanksgiving! Through these activities, not only will they have fun working together or individually to solve the puzzles, but they will also have the opportunity to practice reading latitude and longitude coordinate grid systems (absolute location). Each moment is a teaching moment, and this holiday resource will allow reinforcement of their map reading skills. Students will use the absolute locations that are provided on the key and identify the points on the coordinate grid, drawing one line from one point to another. This project aims to help your child/students practice their research skills. They will pick one of the "realms" or regions based on the realms represented in the Nutcracker Ballet (when visiting after Marie/Clara rescues the Nutcracker/Prince). Children/students can practice following instructions and requirements by following the assignment's instructions. Two options are available to complete the report. 1. Predesigned Research Page or 2. Written Research Report (with introduction and conclusion). An optional presentation extension is available for students to create a project based on architecture, dress, or food research done on their report. • In the first task, students will read 8 fun facts about how people celebrate New Year's around the world. In each passage, one word is spelled incorrectly. Students must identify the incorrectly spelled word and write the word with the correct spelling in their answer sheet. Shaded boxes within the answers reveal the first code.
• In the second task, students will read 8 New Year's resolutions from their favorite celebrities and sports stars. They must identify the parts of speech of underlined words within each quote. When parts of speech cards are matched correctly with the resolutions, shaded boxes reveal their second code.

• In the fourth task, students must perform a close reading of Burning the Old Year by Naomi Shihab Nye, a perfect poem to study on the New Year. Letters of the multiple choice question answers following the poem reveal their fourth code.

Valentine's Day ESCAPE ROOM: Your students are stuck in your classroom on Valentine's Day and cannot leave until they solve 5 challenging Language Arts skills-based tasks about the holiday of love!

• In the first task, students will read 8 fun facts about Valentine's Day and must identify the incorrectly used homophone in each passage. They must write the correct homophone in their student answer booklet. Shaded boxes within the answers reveal their first code.

These easy and fun no-prep French activities provide a lot of exposure to verbs, conjugations, themed vocabulary, numbers, telling time, and more. These one-page dots & boxes games include directions at the top of each page. The games can be laminated and used repeatedly with dry-erase markers.

How to play (written at the top of each page): Complete more boxes than your opponent. Each player draws lines using a different color. On your turn, make a horizontal or vertical line from one dot to another. Say the words on either side of the line you drew. If you complete a box on your turn, draw an X in the box using your color. Once all of the boxes have been completed, count to see who got the most.
