This lesson has everything you need to teach a "Thin Slicing" lesson on writing single variable equations from a word problem or real world scenario. These progressively challenging task cards start students with simple algebraic expressions and sentences, then lead students to write equations involving variables on both sides and equations with multiple unknown quantities. This lesson with printable task cards uses Building Thinking Classrooms strategies for teaching math created by Peter Liljedahl. This is all of my fraction resources that I use with my 6th graders.

This is an investigation activity that students can do independently or in groups to discover the patterns when converting fractions to repeating decimals. It provides examples of how to use long division to convert a fraction to a decimal and then has students apply the same strategy to other fractions with the same denominator. These examples make it great for a sub plan or for early finishers with no instruction needed from the teacher.

Students will investigate the patterns in the decimals for fractions with denominators of 9ths, 3rds and 7ths.

It includes reflection questions to generalize the patterns and apply them to make predictions.
