Fall Bundle of 40 Close Reading Passages | Digital & Print | 5th & 6th Grade

A Google Forms reading comprehension bundle with forty individual activities about key events in September, October, November and December, or famous figures that were either born or died in the fall. The activities, which come in PDF format too, have an informational text with comprehension and grammar questions followed by an extension task, are about the following people or topics:
The NO PREP informational text activities are ideal for distance learning and perfect for students in fifth grade or sixth grade. The resources, which also come in PDF format, allow students to learn key facts about the famous people or topics whilst working on their comprehension skills.

Time allowance to complete each activity:
5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.
40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)
Time allowance to assess:
A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.

Preamble of the Constitution Reveal Activity: Google Sheets

We the People:
This activity concerning the Preamble of the Constitution is a quick review for students. Great for early finishers, bell ringers, or test review.
Students will review the phrases in the Preamble of the Constitution and place them in the correct order by numbering them. As students number the phrases correctly, a meme will be revealed. So, the activity is self-checking.

Thirteen Colonies by Region: Picture Reveal--5th Grade Studies Weekly Week 14

Make rote memorization more engaging:
Students enjoy this engaging activity to practice telling the region of the colony when given the colonies' name. Colonies are listed alphabetically, students enter either New England, Middle, or Southern as the region to which the colony belongs.
Students have fun revealing the picture created using correct answers. The extra challenge is that correct spelling is necessary for the image to be revealed.
Self-checking as image is revealed by correct answers.

Students enjoy this engaging activity to practice naming the charter of the 13 colonies. Students are asked to name the charter (proprietary, company, or royal) of each colony. This information helps students understand why colonies developed in the way that they did.

Bill of Rights/Dec. of Ind. Grievances Reveal: 5th Studies Weekly Week 29

Engaging way to connect to the Bill of Rights:
Students will complete an activity making connects between the Declaration of Independence Grievances and the Bill of Rights. In the activity, students will be presented with a grievance and will have to enter the number of the Amendment it inspired.
Correct answers will reveal an image.
Easy to assign in Google Classroom or Google Drive.
This aligns with Indiana 5th Grade Social Studies Standard 5.H.16.

Timeline: Battles that Continued after Yorktown- 5th Studies Weekly Week 26

The Surrender was not the end:
Students will explore the fact that although Cornwallis surrendered, the Revolutionary War did not end. They will research major events that occurred between the surrender and the British and Loyalists evacuating from America.
Students are given dates and events. They will have to manipulate (either with paper or digitally) the events to match the dates given on the timeline.
This activity aligns with 5th grade Studies Weekly Week 26.

Bill of Rights Four Corners Review: 5th grade studies Weekly Week 29

Actively Review the Bill of Rights:
Students will get up and move in this review of their knowledge of the Bill of Rights. They will determine which Amendment of the Bill of Rights is being described. Students will be presented with a right and will have to choose which of four choices of Amendments. The students choose their answers by moving to a corner labeled with the number of their choice.
Directions for the activity and options for area posters or individual card sets are provided.

Indigenous People's Regional Dwellings Project--5th grade Studies Weekly Week 6

Teachers will have three different approaches to choose from to complete this project concerning the regional dwellings of Indigenous People of North America. Students will research an assigned region in order to complete a project concerning family dwellings. Directions are provided for models, posters, or Google Slides.
Students will answer questions concerning their research and reach conclusions based on their information. These questions increases rigor.
Students will have an opportunity to present the information gained with their classmates.

Civil War Generals Opinion Writing Unit Digital & Print | 5th & 6th Grade

This resource is a 5th grade or 6th grade discussion based writing unit discussing who was the most influential general during the American Civil War: Ulysses S. Grant, Robert E. Lee, George Meade or Stonewall Jackson. The unit has been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each. The Google Slides activity is ideal for distance learning and perfect for students learning about U.S. History and the American Civil War.
The first lesson involves students retrieving facts from informational texts about Ulysses S. Grant, Robert E. Lee, George Meade and Stonewall Jackson, and typing these on to an included fact sheet. In the second lesson students need to use these facts to write three to four paragraphs about the individual generals. In the third lesson students need to use prompt sheets to write up an introduction and a conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before typing up their work using the template provided.

The ABCs of World War II - Vocabulary Review - World History - U.S. History

This is a great resource for students to become familiar with key terms relating to World War II. If you choose to use this as the classroom collaboration project, just share the file with your class, assign a certain number of terms/slides to each student, and allow them to work on the Google Slide together in realtime!
Martin Luther King Biography Writing Unit Digital & Print | 5th & 6th Grade

This is a biography writing unit about the famous civil rights activist, Martin Luther King. The unit is ideal for 5th grade and 6th grade and has been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

French & Indian War Escape Room: 5th Studies Weekly Week 17 (Print and Digital)

Gain the Ohio Country:
Students get involved in information concerning the French and Indian War by trying to obtain the deed for the Ohio Country. The do this by completing tasks which review what they have learned about the French and Indian War while working with a group.
Student will solve a logic puzzle using a map concerning the Iroquois Confederacy.
They will use a pigpen cipher to decode the names of important individuals from the French and Indian War.
Students will assemble puzzles and read maps to help understand the driving force behind this war.
They will break a code to determine the end goal of this war.
Students will also create a timeline of important events from the French and Indian War.

Declaration of Independence Escape Activity: 5th Grade Studies Weekly Week 23

Break Free From British Rule:
Students will engage in a series of puzzles to review and determine the causes of the Revolutionary War. They will focus on the Declaration of Independence and those topics outlined by the colonies which led to the war.
Students will complete a backwards, close reading puzzle to formulate the preamble and its meaning.
They will assemble a puzzle and unscramble letters to determine what the colonists felt was the meaning of government.
A completed maze will spell out six of the grievances outlined in the Declaration of Independence.
By shading boxes to create words, students will discover the consequences to the British government for not meeting the expectations of the colonists.
This activity is available for print and with a digital option with the link provided. A link is also provided for the text of the Declaration of Independence which can be used as reference by students.
This activity aligns with Indiana Social Studies Standard 5.H.10.

Ratifying the Constitution Stations: 5th Grade Studies Weekly Week 28

Engage your students in ratifying the Constitution:
Students will complete 8 different stations which take a closer look at each section of the United States Constitution. This can be done individually, with a partner, or in a group.
Students can discuss and support one another as they work through the preamble and articles of the Constitution.
When complete, students can complete follow up questions which will allow them to decide how the Constitution relates to them. They will explore how the Constitution outlines the jobs of our government.

Lewis & Clark Primary Source Animal Activity: 5th Grade Studies Weekly Week 30

Lewis & Clark Primary Source Activity:
Students will match animals with the descriptions from the journals of Lewis & Clark. By matching cards, students are engaged with this activity. This is great practice with using primary sources.
For added rigor, students will also move into a deeper level of thinking by answering extension questions. These questions have students reflect on the importance of primary sources.
This activity is presented as both print and digital so teacher have the ability to make the activity work for their classroom. Both versions include extension questions to increase rigor.
