Firstly, there are six close reading activities, or informational texts, about:

• Leonardo da Vinci
• Pablo Picasso
• Salvador Dali
• Frida Kahlo
• Vincent van Gogh
• Andy Warhol

These activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity, crossword puzzle and wordsearch for those fast finishers. Answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of each document.

Finally, there are six biography writing units about Leonardo da Vinci, Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol, Vincent van Gogh and Salvador Dali. The units have been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately an hour each.

► There is a "combo" worksheet, which includes all five questions on two pages. There are also 5 separate worksheets that include the same questions on a different worksheet. This allows for more extensive responses. You can have students either complete all five inference-based questions on the "combo" worksheet all at once OR you can have students complete each of the questions at different times: for classwork, independent practice, homework, or formative assessment - your choice! I made these after realizing that my students in high school needed practice with the mechanics of how to construct a sentence before I could begin instructing them on best practices for structure in their essays. Figurative Language Short Passage Sets are a no-prep, printable close reading activity that's perfect for middle school and high school. Each passage has between 206-226 words and is filled with between 14-19 examples of figurative language, such as hyperbole, metaphor, simile, and personification. I’ve found that although my students can tell me the definition of these terms, simile is the only one they can truly pick out in a text. As a result, their writing is filled with overused similes that need work! These figurative language passage sets are rigorous, use higher-level words and phrases, and in addition to merely identifying the different types, students will be asked to discuss the impact it has on the reader, as they’re asked to do on standardized testing. Simply print and go! There is truly no preparation needed, which is why this set is perfect to leave for sub plans, bell ringers, homework, test prep, review or assessment!

Four Corners Figurative Language Activity is a fun whole-group game or review activity. Your students will love moving around the room as you click through the 40 examples of figurative language, such as hyperbole, metaphor, simile, and personification. Firstly, there are six close reading activities, or informational texts, about:

• An Overview of the American Revolutionary War
• The Boston Tea Party
• The Siege of Boston
• The Battles of Trenton & Princeton
• The End of the War & The Treaty of Paris
• George Washington

These activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity for those fast finishers. Answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of each document.

Also included is a great classroom display and sorting activity that is perfect for introducing students to some of the key events of the American Revolution. Great for class work, distance learning or home schooling. There are 29 posters or task cards that include many of the key figures and events from the Boston Tea Party to the Treaty of Paris which formally ended the war.

Then, there are three biography writing units about George Washington, Thomas Jefferson & George III. These units have been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.
