8th Grade Back to School Resources (by price, low to high)

Crossword puzzle using words related to school. Great way to get the kids brains to begin working after the long summer break!

Bonne rentrée ! Cette activité permettra à vos élèves de/d':

• explorer les livres dans votre classe,
• faire des recommandations à ses pairs,
• utiliser les recommandations de leurs pairs pour découvrir de nouveaux livres,
• faire des liens avec des lectures et des expériences passées,
• créer une « liste de souhaits » de lecture pour l'année scolaire.

Cette ressource est l'une de mes activités préférées pour la rentrée. Plusieurs versions de cette activité sont incluses selon l'âge de vos élèves ! Les élèves utiliseront des trombones ou des pinces à linge pour attacher leurs recommandations à leurs couvertures de livres préférées.

Ensuite, ils créeront leur propre liste de souhaits de livres en fonction des recommandations des camarades de classe.

Enfin, les élèves écriront un court texte persuasif expliquant pourquoi ils pensent que leur livre est le MEILLEUR, ce qui vous donnera un petit échantillon d'écriture afin que vous puissiez mieux répondre aux besoins de vos nouveaux élèves.

I envisaged this to be a September week 1 internet activity. It will give students an opportunity to think about how other people perceive them. It could also be used as a lesson in how to search Google effectively or used as a dictionary / thesaurus activity, where students have to find descriptive words in order to search for appropriate pictures on Google Images.

These have been doing the rounds on FaceBook and email recently. You may have received posters / postcards entitled "Teachers...." or "Moms..." and then under the title are a series of photos with captions like;

Each caption is accompanied by an image of what that person thinks about the other person or group of people.

The sample here is of the "Teacher..." postcard. This is NOT what I am selling. I am selling a similar template entitled, "Students..." It is laid out the same as the teacher one with the same titles (the word teacher has been replaced with student), however, the pictures are missing. Students must search Google Images for appropriate pictures that characterize themselves. The photo titles are as follows;

Teaching with Café con Leche ☕️

Display your classroom rules with some quotes by a few famous authors such as William Shakespeare, Ernest Hemingway, and Stephen King! Makes a nice classroom display.

This is a freebie for you!

This game of "Four Corners" is not new or unique; however, this one will work great for your middle schoolers who need to get up and move, and you'll find they are more apt to share without raising their hands or writing it down. This quick and easy, no prep and no printing activity will allow you to truly get to know them on a personal level very quickly.

It's HIGHLY visual so this could even fly in a Core French classroom (Grades 5 - 9); however, I use it in an immersion setting (Grades 5 and 6). It could comfortably be used in any Immersion or French first-language classroom (Grades 3 - 9). As with all of my products, it's not at all babyish and doesn't feature fonts that are frilly or hard-to-read.

For this activity, simply project and GO. I let my students know that they will have to choose their response and move to the corner of the room that suits their answer. You can either click through the slides, have a student touch your SmartBoard to move them along, or you can use a remote clicker or mouse (I do while I'm playing!) to keep the slides rolling.

This Google Slide Deck features :

• 29 pre-created, non-modifiable question slides with 4 options to choose from.
• A template for you to use if you'd like to add in your own questions at the end of the presentation.

Other ways to play:

• I've also allowed students independently to each create a slide and add it into the mix on day 2! Should you choose this option, simply copy the last slide into a Google Slide (11" x 8.5") and share a copy to each student in Google Classroom. Let the magic begin!
• You can choose to extend this activity by having your students huddled in their corners chat about their preferences, or share with the whole group. You can also (I do!!) play WITH them and get to know your students based on these small conversations in the "corners" of your classroom.

• Share a forced of the Google Slides with students.

• Students edit each box and type in an activity or experience they had over the summer. For example, "Went to the beach," "Read a book," or "Had a barbecue."

• Students continue until all text boxes are filled with different activities or experiences they had over the summer.

• Last, students find classmates who share the same activities or experiences listed on their Bingo card and write their names on the line.

How to Share a Forced Copy

• Open your Google Slides presentation.
• In the address bar, locate the URL. It should look something like this: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/your-presentation-id/edit.
• Replace the word "edit" at the end of the URL with "copy" (e.g., https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/your-presentation-id/copy).
• Share this new link with students. When they click on it, they will be prompted to make a copy of the presentation.
