Just print and go with this French board game and worksheet activity to conjugate the verb apprendre in the present tense. The board game includes 37 numbered boxes. The first player to reach box 37 wins. No prep for you! Take a look at the preview for full details on everything that is included, and save with the bundle!

Board Game: Some boxes require students to conjugate the verb using the provided subject pronoun, and others require them to name the subject pronoun that matches the verb conjugation. Lots of repetition will really help them to memorize the French verb apprendre in the present tense. There are a few fun tricks along the way, so getting to the end isn’t always so easy.

In groups of two to four, players take turns rolling a die to move their pieces forward. Spaces are numbered to keep track of which way they’re moving. There are some spaces with special instructions:

• Départ - Start
• Avance de 5 cases - Move forward 5 spaces
• Recule de 5 cases - Move backward 5 spaces
• Rejoue - Play again
• Tu perds ton tour - Lose a turn
• Fin - End

For an extra challenge and to extend playing time, you can tell your students that they have to land directly on the last square and answer it correctly to win. 

Worksheet: One page worksheet - Half of the page requires students to fill in subject pronouns, and the other half requires them to conjugate the verb. This is a great way to prep for the board game!

This is a freebie for you!

This game of "Four Corners" is not new or unique; however, this one will work great for your middle schoolers who need to get up and move, and you'll find they are more apt to share without raising their hands or writing it down. This quick and easy, no prep and no printing activity will allow you to truly get to know them on a personal level very quickly.

It's HIGHLY visual so this could even fly in a Core French classroom (Grades 5 - 9); however, I use it in an immersion setting (Grades 5 and 6). It could comfortably be used in any Immersion or French first-language classroom (Grades 3 - 9). As with all of my products, it's not at all babyish and doesn't feature fonts that are frilly or hard-to-read.

For this activity, simply project and GO. I let my students know that they will have to choose their response and move to the corner of the room that suits their answer. You can either click through the slides, have a student touch your SmartBoard to move them along, or you can use a remote clicker or mouse (I do while I'm playing!) to keep the slides rolling.

This Google Slide Deck features :

• 29 pre-created, non-modifiable question slides with 4 options to choose from.
• A template for you to use if you'd like to add in your own questions at the end of the presentation.

Other ways to play:

• I've also allowed students independently to each create a slide and add it into the mix on day 2! Should you choose this option, simply copy the last slide into a Google Slide (11" x 8.5") and share a copy to each student in Google Classroom. Let the magic begin!
• You can choose to extend this activity by having your students huddled in their corners chat about their preferences, or share with the whole group. You can also (I do!!) play WITH them and get to know your students based on these small conversations in the "corners" of your classroom.

French Dots and Boxes Game - APPELER - PRESENT TENSE - No prep printable

An easy and fun no-prep game that will elicit a lot of exposure and pronunciation for the target vocabulary and grammar when teaching present tense APPELER with and without negation. This is a one-page dots & boxes game including directions. This game could be laminated and used repeatedly with dry-erase markers or played on an iPad with annotation/whiteboard tools.

Objective: Complete more boxes than your component. Each player draws lines using a different color. On your turn, make a horizontal or vertical line from one dot to another. Say the verbs on either side of the line you drew. If you complete a box on your turn, draw an X in the box using your color. Once all of the boxes have been completed, count to see who got the most. Click on the preview to see a sample dots & boxes game in action!

My (very) low-level middle-schoolers love learning about niche objects and concepts in Core French. I use their interests and personalities to create engaging projects that meet the outcomes. I actively use this particular project with grades 4, 5 and 6 but it could easily be used in a grade 7 or even grade 8 classrooms. If you use Pearson's Échos Pros, this works AMAZINGLY alongside "Ah oui, j'aime ça!"

This 30+ page project will prompt your discussions and activities and will provide your students with engaging, highly visual, clear and simple instructions and examples. My products are not babyish -- this is the main reason I started creating products.

Classroom management in a middle school Core French classroom can be dicey! That's why I engage my students as much as possible to keep em' on their toes! Prof du jour is a part of my everyday routine, where a different student each day is given the opportunity to lead the discussions with their peers and to give them confidence in French. Sit back and watch the magic!

This isn't just a run-of-the-mill calendar! My Prof du jour is at the command desk and interacts with their peers and the Google Slides. Here are some activities that my Grades 4, 5 and 6 students actively use found in this document:

Just print out one page of the version you want to use per student. Students place boats (which are squares on the game sheets that they will have darkened with a pencil) on the game board. Students play against each other to try to find and eventually sink their opponent’s boats. This game is also part of my Reflexive Verbs BUNDLE - $ SAVER
Subject pronouns are written in the vertical column and infinitives are written in the boxes at the top. To choose a square, the player must say the subject and correct verb form in the present tense. All of the vocabulary they’ll need is written right on the game sheet and it is all in French. Each game sheet includes two battleship grids and a line separating the two. Students can fold the paper on the line if they want to. One of the grids is for a player to place his boats and the other is to mark and keep track of his opponent. You and your students may also enjoy my collection of reflexive verb resources sold separately.

Teaching French Halloween vocabulary?  Looking for an engaging way to get your French students to build their communication skills and vocabulary? Taboo is a fun French speaking and listening game where one student has to guess a word based on clues given in French by other students. The catch is that they cannot mention anything that is included in a list of taboo words.

All of the words on each card are written in French and English. This is very useful as many of the words will be new to students whether they are beginners or very advanced. You can easily modify this game to play it with all levels!  You are going to love hearing your students speaking in French to each other about Halloween.

Object of the game:

One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can't use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the underlined word at the top of the card.

Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Beginner students should be allowed to use the French TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues.

Students already know how to play "rock, paper, scissors" in English, so why not have some fun with "pierre, feuille, ciseaux" while mastering verb conjugations in your French classroom?

Students play in pairs. They play quick games of "pierre, feuille, ciseaux" to see who will be able to move forward a certain number of spaces on the game board.

The following sentences are written in French on the game board, and it’s fun way to get them speaking more French during the game if they say them when they win:

⭐ La pierre écrase les ciseaux.

⭐ La feuille enveloppe la pierre.

⭐ Les ciseaux découpent la feuille.

When a student lands on a space, he conjugates and translates the verb written on it using the subject pronoun provided. Winning is easy, as long as you're the first one to reach la fin!
