Why is this important?
What's Included:
Once Upon a Crime - ELA Debate Argument Unit
By Blooming Through High School
My students had so much fun doing this, they didn't want it to end! Four Disney villains are being brought to court with charges and your students will either prosecute or defend them in "court":
Ursula - The Little Mermaid: Fraud & Exploitation
Scar - The Lion King: Manslaughter & Environmental Crimes
Gaston - Beauty & The Beast: Attempted Murder & Inciting a Riot
Lady Tremaine - Cinderella: Emotional Abuse/Neglect & Exploitation
Assign your students to be prosecutors and defenders with their own custom files. Each team has their own responsibilities and will need to craft their argument well to win the judge & jury.
-Reinforce learning of claim, support, point of view and more!
- Students need to support their claims with facts from the movie. Perfect for an argumentative unit!
*Lesson has been adapted with extensive sentence stems and examples. Teacher made examples are also included. This is a scaled activity that all students can do without too much teacher intervention.

Sentence Auction|Editing|ELAR|Grammar|FUN LEARNING!
By Blooming Through High School
This Sentence Auction Game is the perfect classroom activity to engage students while reinforcing essential grammar skills. In this interactive grammar game, students use fake money to bid on sentences. Some sentences are perfectly correct, while others contain common errors like missing commas, misplaced apostrophes, spelling mistakes, comma splices, subject-verb agreement errors, capitalization errors, and commonly confused words.
Students must identify and correct the mistakes to maximize the value of their sentences. The game ends with a winner declared based on the total value of the sentences they’ve collected.
This sentence editing game is an excellent tool for grammar practice, sentence correction, and peer learning. Ideal for middle school and high school classrooms, it’s a fun way to improve your students' writing and editing skills!

Yamas & Niyamas: Successful Relationships with Self & Others (ages 7-11)
By Lara Hocheiser
In yoga, the Yamas and Niyamas are a moral code of conduct—a guideline on how to live. Together the Yamas and Niyamas help us make careful decisions about how to think, speak, and behave. This foundational thinking prepares children to form healthy relationships with themselves and others.
Yamas include five (5) guidelines that support how we become a good friend to others, the world, and ourselves. Niyamas describe the principles of being a good person. Through them, we build character to us along our path to becoming who we know we truly can be. We learn mindfulness and self-discipline so we can be good citizens in the world.
These lessons plans can be used as a complete yoga class following the FGKY teaching methodology, or can be used in the home, easily adapted for the school classroom or clinical settings.
Using this 10-lesson unit, adults (parent, teacher, or clinician) can facilitate conversations, games, activities, and yoga experiences that give children concrete information about each of the Yamas and Niyamas. Each lesson has a beautifully illustrated yoga sequence, breathing/meditation exercises, arts and crafts projects, and instruction on leading a class!
Each of the 10 lessons introduces you to one of the Yamas or Niyamas and how to teach it to children ages 7-11, including:
group work or activity with facilitated questions and discussions
breathing exercises, meditations and guided relaxations you can read outloud
beautifully illustrated yoga pose sequences
art projects with instructions for children to express themselves
Also included is:
35 vividly illustrated yoga poses—including six (6) never-before-released—that can be used in a number of ways, such as self-teaching and memory games
Sun Salutation poster complete with poem and poses
The Yamas & Niyamas: Successful Relationships with Self & Others (ages 7-11) comprehensive lesson plan contains 10 units and 48 pages. It is a PDF download which you can view on your phone, tablet, computer or print out onto paper. The lesson unit helps children learn the concepts of the yoga philosophy, the context for the Yamas and Niyamas in everyday life, and how to incorporate these values at school, in sports, and at home.
How can kids benefit from learning about the yamas and niyamas? Our founder Lara Hocheiser discusses how to apply the principles of yamas and niyamas to children ages 7-11 in Yamas and Niyamas Webinar for Kids.

Design & Create a Board Game | Distance Learning
By Innovations in Technology
What middle schooler isn't excited by playing games as a part of their lesson? This activity takes their love of games to a new level as they work with a team to create a new board game, test them for "fun appeal" by playing and critiquing others' games and then making the necessary modifications to complete an awesome final product.
Created for middle schoolers, this project based learning lesson is a great addition to technology classes that teach programming, phone app creation and other game design as a way for students to really focus on what makes a game addictive.
Lesson includes teacher resources, including web links, design ideas and guides, student expectations and rubric, and student worksheets. This lesson can be completed entirely OFF computers, without computer access for students, making it great for those days you have to give up your technology lab for standardized testing.
This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.
My 7th and 8th graders loved this and I hope yours will too!
