When parts of speech cards are matched correctly with the resolutions, shaded boxes reveal their second code.
• In the third task, students must solve a word maze. Letters collected along the way, once unscrambled, reveal their third code.
• In the fourth task, students must perform a close reading of Burning the Old Year by Naomi Shihab Nye, a perfect poem to study on the New Year. Letters of the multiple choice question answers following the poem reveal their fourth code.

• In the third task, students will read 8 fun facts about Christmas and must identify the parts of speech of underlined words within the passages. When matched correctly, shaded boxes will reveal the third code.
• In the fourth task, students must correct commonly confused words (like except and accept) in passages about how Christmas is celebrated around the world. Once complete, they must unscramble shaded boxes to reveal the fourth code.

• In the first task, students must read fun facts about Diwali, each demonstrating 1 of 6 comma rules. Students must match the fact with the comma rule. The code is revealed when cards are matched correctly.
• In the second task, students must perform a close reading of Hanukkah Lights by Philip M. Raskin (1880-1944) and answer multiple choice questions about the selection that when correct, reveal the code.
• In the third task, students will read 8 fun facts about how Christmas is celebrated in different countries around the world and must identify the parts of speech of underlined words within the passages. When matched correctly, shaded boxes will reveal the third code.

• Easter Fun Facts: In the first task, students must read fun facts about Easter, each demonstrating 1 of 6 comma rules. Students must match the fact with the comma rule. The code is revealed when cards are matched correctly.
• Easter 'Round the World: In the third task, students will read about how Easter is celebrated around the world. Many traditions may surprise you! In each passage is a commonly misspelled word. Shaded boxes in the corrected words on their answer sheet will reveal the code.
• Word Maze: In the third task, students solve a word maze about Easter.
• Easter Hymn: In the fourth task, students will perform a close reading of the poem, Easter Hymn, by A. E. Housman (1859-1936). A. E. Housman was one of the most widely-read poets of his time and a self-proclaimed atheist which students must keep in mind as they read. Then, they will answer multiple choice questions about the poem that when correct, reveals the code.

"Collaborative Story Time" is a communal story-telling activity in which students practice using Freytag's Pyramid plot structure in their own narrative writing. In this activity, each student begins a story inspired by a unique evocative photograph. They are prompted to write the exposition of the tale by introducing the setting and main characters. After the allotted amount of time, the story is then passed to another student who is prompted to write the inciting incident or conflict and begin to detail the rising action. The paper is passed from student to student twice more until the story is resolved. When the stories are finished, the worksheet is returned to the original student who can then make edits and is responsible for producing a final draft.

Classic French Taboo Games Bundle - 3 Versions

Object of the game:

One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can't use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the underlined word at the top of the card.

Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Beginner students should be allowed to use the French TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues.

There are many ways you can use this set of cards: ➤ Print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and attach on a ring for small groups to ask and answer questions. ➤ Project the pdf file in class to work in group or with your whole class and avoid printing. ➤ Use as a warm-up speaking activity with a conversation partner. As students enter the classroom have them choose 2-3 cards from a box. ➤ Students who finish their work earlier than others can choose a few of the cards and write out correct answers to false statements. ➤ Use as exit tickets. Give each student a card before the end of class and as they walk out of the room they tell the teacher their answer. ➤ Stations: Put students into groups and divide the cards amongst them. Have groups rotate to a new station as they finish the cards. ➤ Scoot: Put one card on each desk in the classroom. Give each student a response sheet and set a timer to give them just enough time to answer true or false and to correct the false statements. When the timer rings students move on to the next desk and the next question. All cards are numbered so it is simple to stay organized. Full instructions are included. ➤ Use the cards with board games. Students must answer a question in order to move. ➤ Use the cards as an icebreaker activity at the beginning of the school year or right after school holidays. ➤ Great resource for tutoring sessions and vocabulary building. Play French scattergories when you need quick, no prep activities to play with your class while they practice their French New Year / Nouvel An vocabulary, oral, and written skills. These categories games includes many activities with a French New Year vocabulary theme which work well as ice-breakers.

Players attempt to create answers for each of the four categories on their game. This should be a fast moving game and there are only spaces for six words per category. The MAXIMUM they can write is six words so they have to choose them wisely. Students can be creative and flexible with their answers, but other players can challenge them!

12 games are included with 48 different categories! You can either print out the game sheets or project them to save paper and ink. For younger students you can allow more time for them to think and write, while older students will love the challenge of the timer.
