Why teach word meaning through nonsense words (context clues only)?

• Students must use critical thinking to solve
• Students must read the whole passage for context clues
• Students must problem solve to find the best word that makes the most sense.
• They can't find the answer except through problem solving.

All of these are things we want every student to do! This is something that is already adapted for high and low learners.

Micro texts are made with the intention of getting to the skill or the practice students need FASTER. Each text is less than 400 words. Use this AVID Socratic Seminar Team Building l John F. Kennedy Moon Speech lesson plan with Google Slides and summary/reflection to increase dialogue and engagement in your classroom.

This book series is great for children ages 7 - 13, as they can relate with what Frank and Joe are doing and what mystery they are attempting to solve. The book, The HBs - Trouble at the Arcade - Book 1, discusses problem solving skills, working together as a team, listening to others ideas, and being a good friend/sibling. The comprehension questions in this product relate with the text as well as students own experiences. Vocabulary words, their meanings, and example sentences are presented in the packet. Students can also write sentences using the vocabulary words. As the book is being read aloud, as students are reading the book or after the book has been read, students can answer the comprehension questions in this packet. Words that students may need help with spelling when answering comprehension questions are provided in this product as well. An answer key is included at the back of this product for all comprehension questions
