Need an awesome Art Unit? I have just the thing for you! This creative Fall/Winter Birch Tree Unit was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. It is best to use watercolor paper for this unit, since it does the best job of absorbing and working with the watercolor paint. However, if watercolor paper is not at your disposal, please find the heaviest white drawing paper you can find. Painter’s Tape is also best for this assignment, but in a pinch, you may use masking tape- although masking tape may need to be stuck to a different surface (shirt/), it isn’t too sticky on the paper. How to Play Bottle Flip

• Place students into random partners and give each set of partners a water bottle to flip
• Print discussion cards for each group
• Have students get out paper for scoring
• The oldest student flips first
• If they flip the bottle and it lands upright, the flipper gets 2 points, and then its their partners turn to flip
• If they flip the bottle and it does not land upright, they have to draw and answer a random question
• If the flipper answers the question, they get one point. If the student does not answer or says “I don’t know,” the OTHER student gets the point and they get to take their turn
• play for 10 minutes and switch partners!

Students can practice their speaking and listening skills as they get a chance to walk around the room trying to find someone who fits the description in each box! This 16-page resource will provide you with 4 separate texts, each about a dangerous winter sport :

• Bobsleigh,
• Aerial-Freestyle Skiing,
• Skeleton Luge and
• Snowboarding.

Each text is two full pages and each is accompanied by 4 in-depth questions as well as an answer key.

These texts can be used to model reading or writing skills, for informative and descriptive writing, or to use during a guided reading or shared reading with your students. They could be used as an assessment of comprehension. They could easily be assigned to a substitute teacher. I love using these readings around Canada Games, Winter Games or Olympics.

As with all of my documents, I cater to a strictly middle-school crowd, and you'll not find frilly, kiddish or immature content (vocabulary, fonts, structure or images). These would be suitable for your students in grades 5-7 (even 4th or 8th), depending on needs and interests.

Teaching French hiver - winter vocabulary?  Looking for an engaging way to get your French students to build their communication skills and vocabulary? Taboo is a fun French speaking and listening game where one student has to guess a word based on clues given in French by other students. The catch is that they cannot mention anything that is included in a list of taboo words.

All of the words on each card are written in French and English. This is very useful as many of the words will be new to students whether they are beginners or very advanced. Classic French Taboo Games Bundle - 3 Versions

Object of the game:

One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can't use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the underlined word at the top of the card.

Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Beginner students should be allowed to use the French TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues.
