FRENCH | BACK-TO-SCHOOL/RENTRÉE | 4 CORNERS/4 COINS | ICEBREAKER | GET TO KNOW
By French Made Fun!
This is a freebie for you!
This game of "Four Corners" is not new or unique; however, this one will work great for your middle schoolers who need to get up and move, and you'll find they are more apt to share without raising their hands or writing it down. This quick and easy, no prep and no printing activity will allow you to truly get to know them on a personal level very quickly.
It's HIGHLY visual so this could even fly in a Core French classroom (Grades 5 - 9); however, I use it in an immersion setting (Grades 5 and 6). It could comfortably be used in any Immersion or French first-language classroom (Grades 3 - 9). As with all of my products, it's not at all babyish and doesn't feature fonts that are frilly or hard-to-read.
For this activity, simply project and GO. I let my students know that they will have to choose their response and move to the corner of the room that suits their answer. You can either click through the slides, have a student touch your SmartBoard to move them along, or you can use a remote clicker or mouse (I do while I'm playing!) to keep the slides rolling.
This Google Slide Deck features :
Other ways to play:
I hope you have a G R E A T back-to-school, and hope your kids love you! I sure appreciate all of you!
Don't forget to have fun and be real!

French Comprehensible Input Story - Le Mauvais Espion
By Frenchified
Are you looking to improve student comprehension and proficiency in French? This French comprehensible input short story is a fun sample of what can be done with French CI instruction. It is a sampler from the series of French CI units, available for level 1 and level 2 French.
This short story is for French learners who are just starting their studies. Very simple language with lots of repetition - but the story itself is interesting enough to hold their attention. It is the unit story that finishes unit 1 of the CI unit series - each unit uses comprehensible input to give your students a base of frequently used vocabulary words with some basic structures. At the end of the unit, students should be able to easily read and understand the story - and with practice, they can retell the story as well.
These units are especially helpful if you want to use CI but:
The units are complete units with vocabulary and grammar in context - they cover the same material as the standard textbook programs, only with a more comprehensible input focus.
This free story can be used as a standalone activity as early as the first semester of French.
Includes:
This story is part of the Bonjour! Comprehensible input unit 1 for beginning French. This will give you an idea of what the units are like - each unit builds up to a unit story based on the vocabulary and grammar of the unit.

Free French speaking activity - Quand est ton anniversaire?
By Frenchified
This is a super quick French speaking activity that you can use to have students practice dates.
Give each student a copy of the assignment- there are four copies per sheet, so you don't need to make a bunch of copies. Students should fill out the top section with their own birthday. They will then have everything they need to ask and answer the question:
Quand est ton anniversaire?
Mon anniversaire est le ___________.
Students will then talk to each other, asking and answering the question. The goal is to find one person for each month of the year. I always check each class period to see if there is a month with no birthdays and if so, I pretend to have a birthday that month so that they can get all 12 months.

5 French graphics for "one's gotta go" type questions FREEBIE
By Frenchified
Do you start off your class with a quick poll or check-in question? This set of graphics can be used from day one to get students using French. This sampler has 5 different graphics that you can use in Desmos, Nearpod, Peardeck, or on a social media post to get input from your students. Each graphic gives them a choice of four different things - and one's gotta go! You can use it in different levels by adjusting the task.
Level 1 - from the beginning, you can have them just choose between options A, B, C and D. Get lots of comprehensible input by having a class discussion about who wants to get rid of each item. Later on, have them write complete sentences starting with "je choisis."
Level 2 - have students start to add more detail to their responses. Tell them to include details - why did they choose the item they did? Have them write more complex sentences explaining why they think their item should go.
Level 3 - have students make their choice and then talk about why they are getting rid of the item and why the other three items get to stay.
Some graphics have very basic vocabulary, some have more advanced items - but all are easy to understand due to the images. There are also some cultural graphics mixed in.
If you like the freebie sampler of 5, there is another set of 100 that comes with a template for making your own graphics if you would like to do so.
